Outstanding Oven Baked BBQ Ribs
My son, “the Chef” will grill in just about any weather,
but he will agree, that it’s hard to beat these oven baked ribs
As we head into Fall & Winter
grilling season pretty much shuts down
but you can still have incredible BBQ ribs whenever you want!
I’m going to share 2 ways to make them,
the traditional American way and an Asian style
Have you ever baked ribs in the oven?
The secret to making them “fall off the bone”
is cooking them low and slow wrapped in foil
Slather both sides of a rack of ribs with your favorite BBQ sauce
and season with salt and pepper.
Wrap up tightly in foil, double wrap so they won’t leak~
then place them in a baking pan
Cook at 275F for 3-4 hours or 300F for 2-3 hours
They will be “fall off the bone” tender
If they aren’t brown enough for you, slather with more sauce,
and stick them under the broiler for a few minutes
Asian Style Ribs are prepared the same way
but they are first marinated in a
flavorful sweet and tangy sauce
This recipe calls for St. Louis style spare ribs
which are bigger and meatier than baby back or loin ribs
Cut them into individual pieces before marinating
so they will absorb even more flavor
Combine the sauce ingredients in a large Ziplock bag
Add ribs and marinate for at least 3 hours or overnight
Place the ribs on a large piece of foil
and drizzle with the rest of the sauce
Put them into a large shallow pan and cover the pan with foil

Baking them low and slow in a foil covered pan
ensures a moist and tender rib
The sauce bakes into the ribs forming a BBQ candy like glaze
After baking, all the sauce will end up on the pan bottom,
so turn the ribs over and you will see the lovely glaze on them
Place them under the broiler for several minutes if desired

OVEN BBQ RIBS
Ingredients
- 1/3-1/2 rack rack baby back ribs per person
- BBQ sauce
- S&P
- foil
Instructions
- Season ribs on both sides and slather with sauce.
- Wrap in foil and place meaty side up in a foil lined baking sheet.
- Cook in slow oven, at 275 degrees for 3-4 hours, or 300 degree oven for 2-3 hours.
- Just before serving open the foil and broil the meaty side of the ribs until sauce crisps up and gets a little crusty. This is a matter of preference, oftentimes we just skip this step and eat them!

Outstanding Oven BBQ Ribs
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup sweet and sour sauce
- 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp ginger paste*
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- 1 slab St. Louis style spare ribs {about 12 ribs
Instructions
- Combine sauce ingredients in a large sturdy ziplock bag. Place ziplock upright in a large shallow dish. Cut slab into individual ribs and place them inside the bag. Close bag removing as much air as possible. Turn bag several times to thoroughly coat all the ribs. Place dish in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours or overnight.
- Line shallow baking pan with heavy duty foil, extending foil up over the sides and ends of pan so you will have plenty to enclose ribs. Arrange marinated ribs in a single layer on foil and pour any remaining marinade over them. Fold foil over ribs and then cover pan with another piece of foil, sealing tightly.
- Place pan in a 300 degree oven. After 3 hours, reduce heat to 250 and continue to bake for 30-60 minutes. When ready to eat, uncover ribs and turn over so the saucy side is facing up. Place under the broiler for 3-5 minutes to char if desired.

These do look fabulous, and so easy! I don’t make ribs very often, but I do something similar to what you’ve done here with pork steaks. They’re a St. Louis thing as well and super delicious.
Thank you Pattie~I’ve never heard of a pork steak, I’ll have to look for those~
We enjoy ribs, and I make mine the same way. Believe it or not, I have a slab in the freezer! Guess who is making ribs soon?
