A Walk Through the Woods

Let’s take a walk in the woods today

This photograph by Andrew Neel on Unsplash was my inspiration

I started with a light blue wash for the sky

Next came the path

I used a fan brush to add a layer of texture to the ground

It was easy to create rake like stroke

Next I painted the trees

More trees

The paper looks ripply right now,

but since I am painting on a block pad, it will flatten as it dries

Leaves were added in loose shapes of greens,

yellow and several shades of orange, red and brown

I darkened the sky at the horizon for contrast,

and to draw the eyes in

I blended the blue in and deepened the other colors

I decided to add details with ink

Which one do you like better, ink or no ink?

Happy Painting…

  1. Okay – I think I’m getting it – layer, layer, layer. I like the one with the ink. Keep helping us. It will sink in sooner or later. Or then again, maybe you just have a natural talent???? (yep).

What a lovely momentary respite in my day–it’s hectic so much, that a walk in the woods, real or online, sounds so wonderful. I prefer the copy without the ink lines, I love the muted feeling. Thank you, Jenna, for this short, relaxing journey. Georgia Gal

A walk in the woods, especially in autumn, is a respite of peace and quiet! That is exactly what your painting makes me feel! Beautiful Jenna, I guess I would choose the ink one! Have a wonderful weekend! Roll Tide 🅰️

Such a perfect picture for this season. In just a week so many trees have started to turn in my area. I prefer the picture without the ink lines, but both are beautiful.

I love how you make it all look so easy. The painting is very calming. I like the one with the ink.
    Thank you Jenna!

  7. I appreciate the addition of the ink to your painting! And I love the tapestry of autumn hues!

  8. I’ve been using ink forever it seems so I guess that’s what I prefer! But it really brings out the specifics. Still, they are both wonderful. Don’t you love using the brush that way for spikiness?
