Tablescapes, A Night at the Oscar’s

Are you going to watch the Oscar’s Sunday night? I love to tune in and see the fashions, the emotions and the movie clips. This year we are going to have some finger food and a little bubbly and watch the awards on the “big screen.”
This is HH’s “Man Cave,” and it is usually reserved for sporting events and movies, but I talked him into a little “Night at the Oscars for 2.” We are going to sit here at the bar height sofa table and have some appetizers and champagne.
HH has always been an audio/video enthusiast and he has all kinds of paraphernalia like this microphone and movie reel.
The red cloth is our version of the red carpet, and we will have live music too…
Stashed away in the basement we found this crazy bird guitar player, perfect! He even has his own microphone!
We’ll fill up the popcorn bowl and ice down the champagne
but we won’t be wearing black tie, we will be wearing our pajamas!
We are going nibble on some snack mix…which looks quite fancy served in gold studded martini glasses!
This is sort of an amped up version of traditional chex mix, I added some cashews and caramel bugles along with dry roasted peanuts.
I printed a couple of copies of the ballot for us to refer to during the show. You can find the download for the printables by clicking here
There are other printables available too, like these cute little circle tags that I put into star placecard holders for decoration.
Do you have a favorite movie or actor you will be rooting for this year?
Cast your ballot! What do you think should win Best Picture?
Amour
Argo
Beasts of the Southern Wild
Django Unchained
Les Misérables
Life of Pi
Lincoln
Silver Linings Playbook
Zero Dark Thirty

[…] This is a funny appetizer that is surprisingly good! It’s a cross between an egg roll, a fried pickle and a cheese stick…Sound crazy? It is! But it’s crazy good, and crazy easy too! I am going to make up a batch for Oscar Night this Sunday. […]
This looks like fun. Your creations are always inspiring. I went to see Safe Haven last night. Good movie. Did not see a lot of movies this year but you have inspired me to see more so I can be ready next year to have my own party & try to pick the winner. Would love to have a couple of your hand painted popcorn bowls in personal serving size for our theater room. Enjoy the show. Maureen “Mo”
Good morning! It’s a doggone dirty shame, but I haven’t seen ANY of the nominated movies!!! In fact, I don’t think I set foot in a movie theater AT ALL last year!!! I’m a teensy bit claustrophobic, so it’s hard for me to sit in a dark room like that with a bunch of other people. I usually just watch movies when they finally hit HBO or Showtime or whatever. I’ll take a guess, though, and say “Les Miserables” will win Best Picture, but Ben Affleck will take Best Director. If there’s a cuteness factor in there, Ben Affleck will sweep the whole thing! 🙂 We’ll watch on the big screen in our jammies, too, but our celebration won’t have the fun decorative accoutrement that you will!!! That singing bird is hilarious! I’ll probably wear a tiara, but that’s about as far as we’ll go! 🙂 Hey…I gave you a shout out on my most recent post. Thank you again for listing me among you inspirational blogs! I really, really did enjoy and appreciate that! Have a great Wednesday!!!
You crack me up, I wish I had thought about a tiara! We don’t go to movies either, I would much rather wait and watch them in the comfort of our own home. I am a huge Les Mis fan, seen it twice on stage, can’t wait to watch the film. Thank you for the shout out, super nice of you! Good luck with the winter storm.
This is so fun and festive! I love the film reels!!
Kenley
Thanks Kenley, my husband actually helped me create this, he really got into it!
This looks like so much fun! What a great idea~ I love the guitar playing bird:) He would fit right in my kitchen. Have a great day~ Lynn H
Thanks Lynn, I’m not even sure where the bird came from, but he is pretty hilarious! You must have one funky kitchen if he would fit right in! Thanks for your comments!
Fabulous and festive for the Oscars. Love it! The only movie I’ve seen in the race (sadly), is Silver Linings…so I think I’ll have to vote for it!
Your life is so exciting, I wouldn’t need to go to the movies if I were you! Thanks for your comments, I will have to check out Silver Linings!
My life appears more exciting because I take pictures of EVERYTHING! 🙂 Silver Linings is good – you should definitely check it out. Cheers!
Jenna,
ou are so clever! Champagne & nibbles are our favorite way to spend an evening. Don’t know much about the movies, but we sure know about champagne!
You are pretty good at the nibbles department too! Lordy I wish we had a Trader Joe’s!
How fun, looks great! Love your room!

I am still trying to figure out how you have time to blog, can you do it from the road? Thanks for the compliments!
Jenna
I feel horrid, haven’t seen a one of those movies.. oops. The grazing bar is fabulous. Love the charger and the popcorn bowl. Pj’s is a fabulous outfit.. have fun.. xo marlis
I haven’t seen any either! Thanks for visiting!
What a fun set up you have for your party! I had the Oscars on my mind, too.
Thanks Kitty!
I would love to pop over and watch the Oscars on that huge screen! The table setting is fantastic and worthy of the “celebrities” who might join you. I just realized that I have not seen any of the nominated films for best picture. I do go to the movies, but I missed all of those! I did read, “LIfe of Pi” some time ago and I saw Les Mis on broadway. Does that count – hahaha!!
I haven’t seen any of the movies either, and I have seen Les Mis on stage 2x but you read the Life of Pi! That’s impressive! Thanks for commenting!
How fun when can I come over? 🙂 love all the details. Come link up to my party and share this post http://thestylesisters.blogspot.com/2013/02/chinese-new-year-dinner-and-centerpiece.html

Oh, your plans sound like such fun! And what a wonderful setting to watch the Oscars! My husband has less than zero interest, I’m afraid!
What a cute tablescape!! Everything looks great!
Looks like you are ready for a fun evening. Only one I’ve seen is Lincoln, so I’ll vote for Lincoln. Fantastic movie!
What a great room for watching the Oscars and it looks like a lot of fun to. I haven’t seen the Lincoln movie, but I know I will like it, as I love history and the actor is FABULOUS..hope they give to him. I posted my den, so you can imagine me watching in this room, lol..Enjoy your Sunday, than.

Now this is the perfect use of the Man Cave!Hope you had a great time.
