Creations, Treasure Map & a Pirate’s Cocktail

The other day I shared a Pirate’s Tale with you.
The treasure maps were so easy to make, I used white freezer paper
Freezer paper comes in handy for so many things. I am only just starting to see the range of possibilities for this wonderful paper. It is coated on one side which gives it water proofing and strength, and the bright white paper side is perfect for painting, stamping, stenciling or writing.
I tore a little strip off the edges to make the paper look old and worn
Sketch out your design with a pencil first if you want. I left the center pretty open on purpose because I knew I would be putting a plate there.
My plan was to use the morning coffee to stain the paper, but it didn’t leave enough color. I used a tea bag instead, dragging it over the map here and there, because I wanted the color to be uneven.
I did use a paper towel to blot up some of the water, but once it dried the paper was stained and textured from the tea
I used liquid glossy acrylic paint, only because it was handy, but any craft paint will work
You can use this idea to make personalized place mats or table runners for any occasion~
Like this children’s table cover from last Christmas. Freezer paper is inexpensive, easy to pick up at the grocery store, and you can cut it to any size you need. The best characteristic of freezer paper is the waterproof side which makes it hold up to water based paints, plus it’s a barrier and prevents foods from seeping through when used on a table top. When you’re done, toss it away!
Now the favorite cocktail of pirates around these parts is a Bushwacker. There are lots of recipes for this potent little adult smoothie, a blend of rum, liqueurs, milk or ice cream and some call for cream of coconut~ this cocktail is often served with whipped cream, a hefty drizzle of chocolate syrup, and oh yeah, an ounce of 151 proof rum poured over the top! Wowza!
Below is an example of a typical Bushwacker recipe
Bushwacker
1 oz dark rum
1 oz Kahlua
1 oz Dark Creme de Cocoa
2 oz milk
2 oz Cream of Coconut
1 cup ice
Mix together in a blender
This little number weighs in at a whopping 500 calories BEFORE the possible toppings of whip cream, chocolate, or the 151! You add all that and you could be up to about 800 calories!! AND this drink is tasty! You will want it!
Sooooo, in an effort to have my cake and eat it too, so to speak, I experimented a little to see if I could come up with a lower calorie, yet still satisfying version.
Another down side to this cocktail is the number of different ingredients. I wanted a simple version
I started with 1/2 scoop of vanilla low fat yogurt {50 calories}
Topped with 1 Tablespoon Kahlua {50 calories}
Top with 1 Tablespoon of Baileys Irish Creme {50 calories}
Top with 1 Tablespoon of Godiva Chocolate Liqueur {50 calories}
Step back and smile. You KNOW this is going to be good!
Two ways you can go here~
You can stir it around until the ice cream is broken up and starting to melt
Or you can let the ice cream melt and pour it over ice~
Either way, you are sure to enjoy…and want more…and I can’t help that….my work here is done!
A Pirate’s Cocktail
Ingredients

- 1 Tablespoon Kahlua
- 1 Tablespoon Baileys Irish Crema
- 1 Tablespoon Godiva Chocolate Liqueur
Instructions

Enjoy!!

There’s nothing like a Bushwacker sitting on a beach in St. Thomas. Of course they have ALOT more rum in them (like 3 different types of rum). OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHH yummy. I’ll have to try your recipes since I’m a long ways from the Caribbean.
yes, a real Bushwacker has a LOT more rum 🙂 You should check out my Bushwacher pie too http://thepaintedapron.com/2015/06/26/party-panache-bushwacker-pie/
