Tablescapes, Sweet Fantasy

This is sort of a fantasy

My Boston niece was in town this weekend and she and her sister and my daughter wanted to come over to visit.  They were coming at 3, a little early for cocktails, so I thought it might be fun to have some sweets

I had just stocked up for the weekend at Fresh Market so I had some lovely croissants, strudels and pecan bars.  I got to thinking how much fun it would be to have an assortment of goodies displayed under domes…

In lieu of a tablecloth I used 2 of my favorite girly girl aprons

I just laid them on the table, flowers, ruffles, polka dots and cupcakes…

I got a little carried away~

Don’t these  wild berry strudels look good? I cut them in half

These pecan bars are huge so I cut them into 1/4s.

M&Ms have a long shelf life so I like to keep seasonal colors on hand, just in case.  You can keep them in the freezer. This pastel mix from Easter is the perfect assortment of colors!

We could have had quite the lovely tea party…But here is where the fantasy comes in~

The girls didn’t exactly come by themselves…

Look who came with them!  This photo was actually taken 6 months ago during my niece’s last visit.  We had a little fun lining the youngest ones up on the carpet at one of their baptisms In April.  Our newest granddaughter, CC, far left,  was only 2 weeks old!   There are 10 grandchildren between our family and HH’s sister’s family, and they all live in town except for 2.   They range in age from 5 months to 5 1/2 years.  It’s a little busy when we get together.

At our visit Friday afternoon, 6 of the 10 were here, so we didn’t sit around daintily sipping ice cream punch!  Wouldn’t that be lovely on a hot summer afternoon?

Back to the fantasy…

I don’t have a lot of cloth napkins, or napkin rings for that matter, so I just try to mix and match things in a fun way

We didn’t  fill fancy plates with pastries and chocolates either……we were too busy keeping little fingers out of the M&Ms and changing diapers!

But we did have quite a grand time!  HH was thrilled that he had leftover goodies to nibble all weekend~

And I had a lot of fun with my fantasy!

CC is a lot bigger now!  She is quite the cute little cupcake herself!

Sweet Dreams!

The “punch” bowl is actually a Trifle bowl, a good choice for a smaller group, and the punch cups are china coffee cups

The trifle bowl, painted cake plate and cloche are from JMdesigns

The painted silver tray holding forks is an old wedding gift that I jazzed up.  You can see a tutorial on painting silver here

I am loving your fantasy!! and your grandchildren are adorable…that’s quite a feat to have all of that done with little ones running around… but it’s fun, isn’t it? I always try to remember that the diaper changing doesn’t last forever and they grow up quickly…enjoyed your pictures, especially the babies…
    Love, Mona

Great idea to use the aprons as a basis for your tablescape! The beautiful covered stands lift the delicious treats and make them very appetizing. I love all the frills it is set for a great party!
Cute babies and the fact that not one was crying was wonderful!

Jenna, What an adorable little cupcake and they are all so cute all lined up on the carpet! Your creativity knows no bounds, the aprons on the table in lieu of a runner are so perfect along with your ribbon-tied napkins! Love the colors with your buffet of sweets!
