Tablescapes, Laborless Day, Watemelon & Flip Flops

Happy Labor Day! I hope you are having a wonderful and relaxing lazy weekend~We are having a Laborless Labor Day on the coast, and even though we have been dining at home all weekend, it has been no work at all~
HHjr and I do most of the cooking around here, and we planned the Labor Day menu early in the week, so I could do as much shopping as possible before hand. Sometimes we do elaborate things, but this weekend was all about simple and easy, good ole USA favorites..
Like New Orleans BBQ Shrimp
You might notice that there isn’t any flatware on this table
or fancy glassware…it will be canned drinks today
Flip flops keep the pink napkins from flopping around in the breeze
Watermelon is obviously on the menu!
There are a lot of extra napkins
piled high in the chair
You have to keep things secured so they don’t blow about!
The upcoming summer meal can all be eaten with fingers~
Finger licking BBQ Shrimp, it will be messy but worth it!
Buttery garlic french bread for dipping in the shrimp sauce
and watermelon of course,
which CC thought looked very tempting indeed!
The rest of the group was pretty excited about the BBQ shrimp. I’m still not quite sure why it is called BBQ shrimp, because it’s basically shrimp roasted in a spicy butter sauce, but around here it’s called BBQ shrimp or New Orleans BBQ Shrimp. In New Orleans this is often the way shrimp is prepared and served.
You make a sauce with butter, lemon, and spices. Chef Prudhomme is a famous New Orleans chef that really helped make modern cajun cuisine popular. We use his seasoning on lots of things~
Put the unpeeled shrimp into a shallow baking dish with the lemon wedges and pour sauce over all
Bake for 25-30 minutes
and serve with some crusty, garlic french bread for dipping in all the yummy juices
Now you know why there isn’t any flatware, but LOTS of napkins on the table! The hardest part of this recipe is waiting until time to eat!

NEW ORLEANS BBQ SHRIMP
Ingredients
- 2 pounds fresh jumbo shrimp,* heads off and unpeeled
- 2 sticks real unsalted butter

- 1 T garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375
- juice 1 lemon and slice the other 2 into thin wedges
- Wash shrimp and drain well.
- Melt butter in a sauce pan.
- Add the juice of 1 lemon, black pepper, blackened seasoning, Worcestershire, and garlic powder.
- Simmer for 10 minutes to blend flavors.
- Place shrimp into a 9 x 13 casserole dish and pour sauce over all.
- Top shrimp with lemon slices and push to submerge in sauce.
- Bake at 375 for 25 to 30 minutes or until shrimp are pink.

[…] fully intended to assemble this casserole in advance to take to the beach for the first meal of our Laborless Day weekend, because it is one of the easiest and most popular dishes I make. I ran out of time […]

Great pictures today especially CC and Mom! So cute!! Happy Labor Day!
Sweet!! Thanks Vicki!
Fabulous as always. Wish we were there this weekend. I recognize the seashell napkin ring piled in the pink chair (I think I gave you that on a wine bottle once). FYI, please delete mobirdsong@bellsouth.net and ADD mobirdsong@gmail.com. Thanks. Happy day to you and yours.
You have a sharp eye Miss M, I love that seashell napkin ring and use it all the time in all kinds of fun places and always think of you 🙂
Crazy coastal weather, raining while the sun was shining kind of weekend!
Hi Jenna – So I see the picture on the link party, say, “oooohhhh” and then hover and then say, “of course it’s Jenna’s!” LOL. I am obsessed… obsessed I tell you with pink and green. I think it’s from coming of age in the ’80’s. I’m actually contemplating painting my laundry room pink and green. But for now… I can covet and enjoy your fabulous tablescape. Hugs, Holly @ coconutheadsurvivalguide
Ha! The same thing happens to me, I seem to gravitate to your posts right away at the linky parties! You’re right, pink and green is soooooo 80s!!
love love love bbq shrimp.. I know, right, from where does that name come??? I was able to find some BBQ seasoning while in Louisiana.. now I think I need to make some. If I had a view like that, I’d never come inside. Gorgeous table. Love the idea of the flip flops!~! xo marlis
I love BBQ Shrimp Jenna, my husband not so much so I have to wait and have it when my sister comes to visit. The best part is dunking the bread in all that flavorful buttery goodness! Love the flipflop napkin holders and your fun watermelon table! CC is adorable 🙂
It was a watermelon weekend for both of us! But I think I would have rather been on the water by the palm trees like you!! What a perfect setting for an end of the summer celebration.
Watermelon table is great! What end of summer fun!

Cute table and such a clever idea to use the flip-flops as napkin rings. Thanks for the recipe. This sounds easy and delicious. Love shrimp, but have never had this recipe.
The shrimp looks delicious. What a beautiful view! I love your very summery tablescape, cute flip flops and watermelons…Christine
Jenna, thank you for your kind comments and prayers. Bless you for that and the encouragement.
Pink and green have always been a favorite of mine and you did such a great job with it and all your fun accessories. Wish I was there at your setting to enjoy some of that scrumptious shrimp and French bread… mmm good!
What a fun and pretty table! Love all the watermelon accents. Thanks for the shrimp recipe. Since I have moved to the Texas Gulf Coast I am always looking for ways to serve shrimp!
Big Texas Hugs,

Hmmmm, looks like your place is one where I would’ve liked to be on Labor Day. You have combined a number of wonderful accessories to make this a really fun, happy table.
The flip flops for napkins rings – that is awesome! So clever. The whole table is great. Adorable little gal, too! -Dawn @ We Call It Junkin.com
I just love your tablescape, watermelon, well actually everything! I also thought the flip flops as napkin holders was darling. Thanks for sharing on the BBQ Block Party
Thanks so much!
Love it all – The casualness of everything, the delicious food, the colors on your table, and, of course, watermelon – one of the true joys of summer! Enjoy!
You’ve set a cute table but the BBQ shrimp wins the prize. It looks yummy and easy!
What a fun table! Using flip flops for napkin rings is such a cool idea…there isn’t a creative bone in my body, obviously. The shrimp looks delish.
Have a great week, Jenna…
Thanks Marigene, and that is so not true, I’ve seen plenty of creative tables in the middle of nowhere!
Jenna – Thank you for stopping by my blog! You asked me about the wheelbarrow salt cellar. I bought it at Pottery Barn two or three years ago. I bought 4 of them at the time. I wish I had bought a few more!
Thank you! Everything cute comes from Pottery Barn!!
The table setting is great, but the baby stole the show. Darling.
Thanks so much! I can’t resist tucking her little face in every so often 🙂
I do love this table, but I think my favorite things about this post is the title! Such a cute “laborless” idea! Your table setting is adorable and the food looks scumptious! The watermelon bowls and fish placemats are too, too cute!
Thank you so much Diane! I found those placemats at CTS for $.50!
This table is wonderful…love every element, especially those watermelon bowls. The shrimp looks great!
