In the spirit of giving I want to share some quick decor ideas and  painting secrets with you 🙂

Painting is just a process of breaking down your subject into shapes and colors, and then building it back together

I wanted some painted ornaments to match these Santa face plates for a table I’m going to share with you soon

I started with the face

the secret here is don’t over think it, and be patient, it’s easy to give up at this point because you think it doesn’t look right

add the next color shape and continue

You have Old St. Nick!

Things have been going at full pace around here, and I’ve tweaked a few things…when I decorate for a holiday it’s much like adding layers like when I’m painting…I start with a base and add to it as I go along…

The family room got some new tweaks with this pillow, it hopped in my cart at Target the other day. It was so perfect with the muslin cover and the stamped gold and silver snowflakes~

I put more “angel wings” on the hearth in a ceramic urn

The Smith and Hawkin basket [another Target find] keeps toys handy, but camouflaged with a piece of fringed burlap

I wanted more glitzy pillows for the love seat, but I wanted to show Santa I could be good so I decided to just do a simple cover up with burlap, burlap ribbon, and gold star twist garland to help tie everything together with what else is going on in the room

A simple treatment, done in minutes and easily removed after the holidays

In the kitchen I created some fun for the grandchildren

The stair rail is decorated mainly for the boys, because they spend the night a lot, with their stockings and vintage toys

  2. You are SOOOOO talented!

It looks like a Holly Jolly Christmas at your house Jenna and I bet your grandsons love the sweet shoppe! Your new snowflake pillow looks so festive in silver and gold. I have the same problem with things hopping my shopping cart at Target, it’s a dangerous place to shop for groceries. Love your painted Santa ornaments, you make it look so easy 🙂

  4. I love Old St. Nick! Whenever I see anything painted, I freeze up. I literally don’t have a painting gene in my body and it always comes out terrible. But I’m thinking with your step-by-step pictures I can conquer this and create a beautiful ornament 🙂

Jenna, everything looks so festive. You made the painting sound so easy, but I have no artistic talent, so I’m thinking it might not be so easy for me. How cute your baker’s rack looks, and I love the way you decorated the banister on your stairway. laurie

Jenna, you are the most prepared grandma I know of! All your decorations with angel wings are beautiful. Love your pillow covers, too. For the grand finale, thank you a million times for the Santa face painting tutorial!!!! I am such a challenged painter, and you’ve given me the step-by-step instructions I need so badly! The vintage toys are a nice touch, too, of course. 😉
    Ho-ho-ho!
