Creations, Oscar Night Table Runner

Are you planning to watch the Oscars this year?
I haven’t seen any of the movies, but I think it’s still fun to do a little something special
There’s still plenty of time to create a little ambiance
All you need is an idea
and some freezer paper
and maybe a rough sketch of your concept
some paint or markers
and you are ready to rock and roll
So here’s my idea of a film strip on the red carpet
With the nominees for Best Picture written in the center
I used acrylic paint and a gold paint pen
Add some stars for some razzle dazzle
You can make small stars with a dot of paint and a toothpick
Put down a glob of paint. Using a toothpick or wooden skewer, insert into paint and firmly pull tip of pick out, forming a point. Continue until you have 5 sort of evenly spaced points. They won’t be perfect, but they will be charming 😊
This technique is much easier on a slick surface, but it does work with paper. Experiment and practice a bit to get the feel of how it works
Be sure to come back for the party on Sunday!
Juicy details
To see another Academy Awards post see A Night at the Oscars here
freezer paper is found by the foil, saran and ziplocks at your store. It is coated on one side making that side waterproof. If you use a lot of water based paint, you might get some ripples, the side you are painting on is paper after all, so keep this in mind~
freezer paper is great for tablecloths for children’s tables, see Some Elf Mischief here
freezer paper is also handy for wrapping packages here and here

[…] Last year I used it to make a runner for Oscar night […]
Too fun Jenna! We saw American Sniper and I’ve been wanting to see Birdman and The Imitation Game but it won’t be before Sunday. I’ve been drooling over Wolfgang Puck’s Oscar Menu, wish I had a ticket for that 🙂
What a great table runner, Jenna! I have some freezer paper in the pantry…yea!!
I want you to come see what my son made me for Valentine’s Day, which is on my latest post. He’s an artist, also, like you.
thanks Kitty, I’ll be right over 🙂
You are having with this I see. Love the table runner. I think I would love to watch the Oscars with you, such fun discussing best movies and dresses and I know you would have delicious treats! I may have to record Downton Abbey and watch a little of Oscar…….
Hugs.
That would be so much fun Emily! My husband likes the red carpet part then goes to bed! I always record Downton to savor during the week~ are you watching Grantchester? Love that~
I love it! I don’t really watch for the awards, but I do like to see the dresses on the red carpet:@)
So cute and creative, Jenna! I normally watch to see what everyone is wearing and then change the channel. We just saw American Sniper and loved it.
xx,
Sherry
ha, thanks Sherry! I am hoping to see American Sniper soon~
What a fun table! We used freezer paper under newspapers when we did steamers to catch all the juice from the clam. I love your little tip on making stars.
Have a great week, Jenna.
Oh, this is another great tip Marigene~what a great idea! We don’t do steamers, but will try this summer when we do a shrimp boil~
I love this! Easy, inexpensive and I especially LOVE the wrapping paper idea! Found you through Between Naps on the Porch – thanks for sharing!

Thanks Shelly, freezer paper is handy stuff!
What great ideas! I’m definitely getting some freezer paper the next time I see some at Wally World. I love your runner!
Good idea! 🙂
Visiting from the show your style party….how have I never thought of this before? I often use kraft, butcher, and wrapping paper as runners (I even did chalk last week, but have never painted them..how clever!!! Definitely pinning this one!!!!
Have fun, you will love it for so many things!
This is so stinkin cute! We love to watch the Oscars around here and we try to see as many of the movies as we can beforehand but we’ve never really had an Oscar party. I think we’d have so much fun, though! Thanks for linking up with Talented Tuesday and we hope to see you back this week!
How fun, it looks wonderful. Thanks for linking up to Sweet and Savoury Sunday, stop by and link up again. Have a great day!! Laura@Baking in Pyjamas
