Recipe Box, Maple Sausage Cheese Grits

Okay, this more of an idea than a brilliant culinary creation…
It’s just sausage mixed with cheese grits
But!!!
You jazz up the flavor profile by using Maple sausage and your favorite tangy cheeses
Brown the sausage
make the grits according to package directions
Here’s where the fun begins! Add butter and lots of cheese
I used up some cheeses I had on hand, shredded sharp white American and Gouda sandwich slices
You can use sharp cheddar of course, but try something different like Gruyere, Manchego, Asiago to create a unexpected flavor to excite the tastebuds
Season well with salt and pepper and put the lid back on the grits and set aside for a few minutes to let the cheese and butter melt
Stir the cooked sausage into the grits
Cover dish and refrigerate for up to 2 days if desired. Bake at 350 until heated through, 30-45 minutes, before serving
Serve with fresh fruit and/or scrambled eggs if desired

Notes
You can also cut the chilled grits into slices and saute the slices in a little butter
throw an egg in the pan
and top your grits cake with a lovely fried egg
A very sunny way to fuel up!
Dad would love this for Father’s Day!
This is a great make ahead dish for busy weekends. We enjoyed this at our recent Weekend Getaway, it was so easy to make before our guests arrived and then pop in the oven 2 days later for Sunday breakfast~
Another easy do ahead breakfast dish with maple sausage is this Cinnamon Roll & Sausage Bread Pudding

[…] Maple Sausage Cheese Grits […]
Jenna, I’ve eaten and enjoyed grits but I’ve never tried making them! Maybe this is the place to start as my family loves the maple flavored sausages. And do ahead dishes are always good for those weekend guests! Linda
I wouldn’t mind the fried egg version for breakfast tomorrow-sounds good:@)
Oh we would love this combo Jenna! The maple flavored sausage with it sounds divine! Have you tried Bob’s Red Mill Grits/ Polenta? They don’t take that long to cook and they have great texture and flavor. 🙂
