Home Decor, Colorful Doors

I have been dabbling with the idea of painting interior doors with color for several years, like in this house on Houzz.com
Or maybe painting the inside of my front door black…
Then I saw this in Coastal Living
And I was off to the paint store!
The beach house front door has had this painted fish on it for at least 15 years…really…
it was time for a change
The fish almost disappeared with the first coat!
I chose Glidden Thai Teal* and had it color matched and mixed in Behr’s Premium Plus, low odor paint and primer in one
It took no time at all to paint
Which was good because it was 1000 degrees outside
I just love instant gratification
Come in and let me show you what happened inside
The foyer went from ho hum white…
to Dewy Iris [who thinks up these color names?]
It’s not quite as bright as it photographed
It actually matches the deep lavender of the glass cabinet
I bought a quart of each color and have more than 1/2 of each quart left~
You know what that means, I’ve got lots more paint! 🎨
NOTE:
I “painted” this front door black using Picmonkey.
I used the Artsy Draw Effect~ it’s a great way to test out colors without investing in paint. Upload your photo and click on the magic wand to open all the effects, and scroll down to draw {it has colored pencils on the label}
You can pick any color you want, adjust the brush size and start “painting.” There is even an eraser which is handy because it’s hard to “draw” straight lines 😳
So what do you think, yea or nay on the black interior front door?
Thanks for dropping by!
*NOTE: the man at Home Depot recommended the Behr paint because I did not know what type of paint was used previously on the door. He said the Behr brand would work over any type of paint, acrylic or oil based. This was his opinion, and he mixed the exact colors I wanted, so I just went with what he said. I got semi gloss exterior for the outside, and semi gloss interior for the inside. I loved the low odor of this paint, it didn’t smell at all!

Jenna, I love your new painted turquoise door for your beach abode! The iris color is so fun on the interior too. I’ve always thought it would be a fun job to name paint colors and OPI nail polish too 🙂 I like the black color for your door, it adds some drama and looks great with your bordered rug too!
Jenna, I love both colors! Fabulous impact of the pretty coastal colors on the doors! The black looks great too! Thanks for the great picmonkey tip for testing colors! ~Rhonda
Watch out, I got pretty addicted to coloring things with Picmonkey! Ha, now I want to try different colors on everything! 🙂 >
Love, love, love! I like the black door, too. Striking backdrop for all the fabulous tablescapes.
Love it all!!!❤️❤️❤️
You know I LOVE it all! I had painted our old front door that color before we replaced it. I think the entryway looks fantastic too. All your colors are just perfect.
Thanks Ellen, I had a feeling you might approve 🙂 >
Love the painted doors!
Thank you Sally!! I couldn’t believe how easy it was, I might have created a monster! >
Love, love, LOVE the colors of your door in your beach home! The perfect touch and cheery welcome. I love the drama of the black door in your home, so I say go for it!
I appreciate the feedback Joanne, I think I’m off to the paint store again 🙂 >
Lovin’ the new color of the door, very welcoming and beachy:@)
Gorgeous and fun colors! I’ve painted my doors many colors over the years and it’s so much fun to change them up because it doesn’t take forever to paint just a door. It’ll be fun to see what else you paint with those great colors. Oh, and thank you for sharing that feature on Picmonkey. I use the site all the time and had no idea about that particular way to use it…
Judy
I am afraid I am going to go overboard with this concept! You’re right, is so easy to paint just a door! Thanks Judy
Love the new color, inside and out, Jenna! Fabulous!!
Jenna, I love your new door color, fabulous! But, you sure wanted it in a hurry to paint in that coastal humid heat. The only thing I can do at the beach is sit by the pool or beach and sip something cold! I love all your colors and just perfect for your house at the beach. I really love the black for your door. It looks so good. I love Pic Monkey…………
My secret was I painted it while standing in the hallway with the AC blasting! Thanks Emily!
Oh I love a pretty coloured door. Must have been a good feeling painting over the fish. The teal is beautiful.
I’m so happy you went with the aqua! Gorgeous and an instant refresh that looks awesome next to the blue bench. My foyer door is black inside and out….:-)
Yes, I just saw it! Gorgeous! I have 5 doors designated for black in the near future! >
What a perfect color for a beach house. That’s such a pretty door anyway, and the aqua color just brings out the beauty. I want to paint my interior doors back, but I’m such a chicken. The picture of your door looks really nice with the black paint.
let’s go for it! >
