Party Panache, Rum Coffee Cake Cocktail

In honor of the annual Flora-Bama Mullet Toss, I created a new version of the ever popular Bushwacker frozen adult beverage that was being consumed in alarming quantities over the weekend along the Gulf Coast
“What started as an idea for locals to toss a dead mullet from Florida to Alabama more than three decades ago has grown into a cultural phenomenon held each April unlike anything on the Gulf Coast.” source
The 32nd Annual Interstate Mullet Toss and Gulf Coast’s Greatest Beach Party is held at the Flora-Bama Lounge on Perdido Key, Flordia, right on the Alabama Florida state line
Yes, mullets are actually tossed, over the state line, from Florida into Alabama, and people come from all over for the fishy fun 🎏
It was a picture perfect 80 degree weekend and we took our boat Gulf side to sneak a peek
We weren’t the only ones!
It was a boat parade all weekend
We skipped the crowds and went back to the porch and made our own Mullet Toss bushwackers
Every local restaurant has their own version, but the common denominator is that it’s a strong, cold and creamy adult beverage, similar to a milk shake
Many bushwackers are frozen, but I made ours with Coconut Rum, Cake Vodka, Bailey’s Irish Creme, coffee ice cream, and poured it over ice
Stir the ice cream into the spirits and then pour it over ice. You can make up a big batch and keep it in the fridge
Warning, this is dangerously good, so drink responsibly or you might just end up entering the bikini contest 👙

Rum Coffee Cake Cocktail
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 oz Cake Vodka
- 1 1/2 oz Coconut Rum
- 1 1/2 oz Bailey’s Irish Creme
- 1-2 scoops coffee ice cream
Instructions
- Combine everything together in a measuring cup or pitcher and stir until ice cream melts.
- Pour over ice to serve.
Notes
You can also put it in a jar and take it along ⛵️ 🌴
Did you espy my new spoon?
Isn’t it adorable?
I ordered it from Kelly at Eve of Joy on Etsy here. You can design your own spoon, fork, garden markers, she has all kinds of cool stuff!
You might also want to check out a lo cal version of a bushwacker type drink, Pirate’s Cocktail . It’s made with frozen yogurt instead of ice cream and a lot less liquor
Or make your drink into a Bushwacker Pie
Keep these recipes in mind for cool refreshment on the upcoming hot summer days!
Don’t forget to check out Eve of Joy!

Jenna, we can make a celebration out of nothing here in the Deep South! Sounds like a roaring good time! I love your new spoon, I am checking out the Etsy shop! Happy Wednesday!
Well I am so sad I missed all the party fun on the coast. Looks like the weather was perfect too. We have been down when this was happening and stayed clear of it, traffic and long lines at restaurants. I know a lot of people enjoy this, especially the kids. You had the right idea, boat side views. The pie and drinks look yummy…..
So, did you win the bikini contest again this year?
Oh, this is too funny! I’ve never been on the coast during the annual mullet toss, but I did back in the day spend some fun nights at the original FloraBama bar!! But we’ll just not tell the kids about that, ok? Mmmmm, rum coffee cake cocktail – yes, please!
Jenna, I’m with Lynn…mullet tossing aside, it looks like a perfect excuse for some fun in the sun and surf! I’ll have my cocktail on the boat please 🙂
