Fearless Friday, Painting Camp

CC is my painter, she absolutely loves it…

“Can I paint?”

“I wanna paint!”

“Come on Daddy, come paint with us!”

She often attracts a crowd, and before long, she has a painting class in full swing

I haven’t gotten to paint much this week, just a few quick watercolor sketches

But I have been playing with the Waterlogue app on my iPhone

It’s fast and fun

HHjr whipped up these onion rings the other night, yummmmmm

It’s fun to experiment with the different effects the filters produce

I usually use vibrant

But I do love the lines with streamlined and the cool effects with illustration

I often use Waterlogue for photos I am going to paint, it emphasizes the shapes and contrasts

Above is the reference page I used to paint Peach Pie, the top photo on the sheet is the original photo and the lower larger photo is the Waterlogue version

PicMonkey has great effects for photos too, below is the paint effect

Edge sketch

And posterize

Playing with different filters and effects for photos is great fun, non artists can paint away and artists can use the filters to help them simplify complex subjects, break down colors and tones, and experiment with different techniques

Have fun and Be Fearless!

  1. OMG your CC is adorable! Budding talent for sure. Photo apps are something I need to explore. Thanks for the tutorial!

  2. What a beautiful group of little artists! Jenna, when Waterlogue first came out I played with it a lot, I wasn’t blogging then. I need to play around with it again, it really is fun! Happy weekend!

  3. CC is a living doll! She has several who joined in to paint with her. So cute! You have mad skills, my friend. Shelley’s hardest class last semester was photoshop and illustrator. Honestly she spent more time in the art department than she did on her equine science class!

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

    • Thanks RJ, I am so thrilled they all love to paint! I still learn and discover things every time I am editing photos, a whole new world for sure, and just about as far from equine science as you can get!

I love seeing all the future talent enjoying themselves doing something creative!! I may have to play around with some of these features you showed – the effects are fabulous!!

Love the kiddos and daddy painting!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  6. Fun for the kiddos while, and fun for Nana (or whatever their pet name is they call you) with Waterlogue!

  7. Leslie Anne Tarabella says:

When I was in graduate school for early childhood education, our instructor told us if we didn’t have paint and blocks in our classroom every day, we’d be fired! Paint is so important in the development of motor/social/language and art skills!!! Good for you!!! – And the onion rings look like they’d help my hunger development!!!

    • I can’t believe how the boys drop their fishing poles and pick up paint brushes when we get the paint out, and talk about fearless and imaginations…so fabulous! I’m sure all the kids wanted to be in Miss Leslie Anne’s class!

  8. Rebecca says:

Are your creations for purchase? I saw your black, grey & gold paisley placemats, just what I’ve been looking for!!

  9. I hope when our little Baby Grand is old enough to hold a paint brush we can have the experience you have shared. It’s wonderful! Love the waterlogues!

  10. Glad you are enjoying summer!!

  11. Mary says:
