Fearless Friday, Musical Mixed Media

A quick sketch gathering thoughts for a musical painting for a special family friend
Grew and emerged into 2 fun collage projects, a decoupaged bottle
And a mixed media canvas
When I got the idea for the collage projects,
my first concern was where to get photos
without spending a lot of time and money looking through magazines…
Pinterest to the rescue!
I did various searches for things like guitar art,
music art, etc., and found a great variety of very cool stuff
I also got some scrapbooking stickers from Michael’s
Be aware that I could never sell anything using these screenshots
due to copyright laws because they are not my original work.
Both of these items are personal gifts for family friends who
LOVE playing music
The gifts are for two of HHjr’s friends who get together
regularly with him for jam sessions
One of them brought us a bottle of this whiskey as a gift
We all flipped for its unique flavor and sip it for special occasions
I think he will enjoy “his bottle” decorated for his music room
I began by painting the entire bottle from the neck down with
Mod Podge
and began adding the paper photos* {details at end of post}
I got the sheet music from the Graphics Fairy
or you can use real sheet music
I painted the neck with 2 shades of glossy brown
and filled in any uncovered glass areas with paint
For the canvas I began with a large paper photo on a canvas painted with
black gesso
Mod Podge under and over
I didn’t over think it, just began adding photos and my original sketch
Now for the background
I used 3 colors and a flat square brush and randomly added strokes
I almost always do my paintings on a black canvas,
I like the way it peeks through in spots for dramatic accents
and it adds depth
For the finishing touch I added some gold drips and brown dots
the painting extends around the sides
and I added some painted piano keys
Surprise Leo, this is for you!
Leo is a multi talented musician, who plays regularly at different local venues. He plays just about everything, and specializes in piano, guitar and his favorite fiddle. We are so lucky to have him come over and play for us privately!
{he makes a really great Santa too!}
Juicy Details
*for photos: edit your screen shots with PicMonkey, Photoshop, or whatever you use. Then create a new document, {in Photoshop make a printable page size and proceed to add, resize, and arrange edited photos} for PicMonkey choose design from the drop down menu and make a blank canvas 3000 x 4000. This will print out as 8 1/2 inches x 11 inches. Add your edited photos by importing them from your desktop as overlays. You can resize and arrange them as desired. Then print and cut the photos
Other creations from the same whiskey bottle
Have fun and Be Fearless!

These are terrific, Jenna — and I really appreciate your attention to copyright. All fine to play with for fun, friends and family and you maxed it out!
thank you Jeanie, it was really fun!
Jenna, I am the self-proclaimed Mod Podge Queen! I love it! AND I love your projects. Several peeps at Red DOt have been painting on black canvases, and I’ve never tried it before. Maybe I should try one soon! Have a great weekend!
Do you know Melanie Morris? She has a studio in Homewood, I love her work…she almost always starts with a red orange underpainting for her landscapes and it really makes them pop!
I’m sure Leo will be thrilled with your artistry Jenna! The repurposed bottle makes a great canvas and I love the collage painting with the art extending around the edge of the canvas 🎼🎹🎨
Lucky Leo!!! Such a beautiful and thoughtful gift Jenna. I know exactly how Leo feels as a recipient of a beautiful mod podge jewelery box! I think this is a great crafty art full of creative fun. Love all the easy instructions and what a great pic of the grands and Santa. Hope you have a wonderful weekend……..Hope to see you soon.
