Fearless Friday, Inktober

Happy October!
I am joining the Inktober art challenge this month
Inktober is an annual October international art challenge
Artists create a daily drawing or painting using only ink
Jake Parker created this challenge 10 years ago
The purpose is to inspire artists to draw everyday…
This improves skills and develops positive drawing habits
You can use the list of daily prompts
Or create/draw whatever you want!
Big, small, detailed, abstract, this challenge is for anyone!
I treated myself to the October Sketchbox,
not that I needed any art supplies, 😳 I am an art supply addict…
But I knew a box of new goodies would amp up my excitement!
The box contained 2 kinds of ink, a #4 flat shader brush, and 8 pens of various types and nib sizes. One of the pens, Kuretake Zig Cambio* is actually Indigo blue, so I added some other blue pens in various sizes and shades to the supplies I want to use this month
I want to experiment drawing with shades and tones of blue as well as black
*this is a First Look pen, debuting for Sketchbox customers before it is available in stores!
I used my new organizer and filled it with new and old pens, and added this mini sketch book from a previous sketchbox
I am going to be traveling a lot this month, all my supplies easily fit in this 11″ x 4″ box, so I will have everything I need wherever I am and it will be easy to grab and go
I jotted down the list of prompts and will do each day’s drawing in this mini book
I am planning to keep most of the sketches small and only spend 15 minutes per day
Ring was day #1
I drew a picture of a handmade ring I saw on Instagram
Day 2, “Mindless” is a Zentangle
Zentangles are such a fun way to draw and doodle
You start with a line and develop it into a pattern
Keep adding shapes, “mindlessly” creating patterns and whimsy
Until your page or rectangle is filled
Anyone can doodle, and Inktober is all about experimenting and practicing
Choosing my supplies, keeping them together
and placing a time limit on the daily challenge
Makes me feel confident I can keep up with this
I hope you’ll join the fun!
I will be posting daily on Instagram if you want to follow along!
You can even break the rules if you want and add a little color!
Have fun and Be Fearless!

I always enjoy your Fearless Friday’s Jenna. Reading your post reminded me that I used to doodle, but never do that now. Maybe it was way before “devices” when we actually picked up pen and paper. Happy Friday and Safe travels this month!
Thank you Pam, and you should start doodling again, it’s very relaxing 🖋 Have a lovely weekend!
Hi Jenna, I love your doodles!! Fantastic that you are doing the Inktober challenge! 🎨👍 Good idea to keep the drawings small. I like that you also are trying some new art supplies. 💗 They always make it more fun!! Cheers! 😍
thanks Jill!
Oh Jenna, you could never meet a challenge you could not keep up with your talent. Adding to your art supplies I’m sure is always a treat and inspiration to further your production of painting and drawings. Love the doodles and tutorial on how they are achieved. I adore the pop of red on the rooster! Have a great weekend……..hugs.
Thank you Emily! I hear cooler temps are on the way!
I love your sketching and am always inspired by your beautiful work. The sketch box looks like fun, I need to look into getting one. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, Jenna! 💚😊
You should sign up for one sometime, it’s fun not knowing what you’re going to get, and seeing and trying things you might not have tried. I’ve ordered from Art Snacks too. Let me know if you get one!
Your leaves are really the best. They have such a wonderful feel to them. And love the chicken too! Happy Inktober!
thanks Jeanie! Sometimes the ones with the least time and effort are the best!
I really like your leaves too and the chicken looks great with the pop of red. The downy chest feathers look so real! You do this so well! 😉
thank you Cyndi!
I love your art. You always make it look so easy. I am an art supply addict too, but I am more into rubber stamping, bookmaking, and paper art. I am interested in zentangle, but mine never look this good.
Thank you Pattie! I am planning to share another zentangle post soon with links to a great practice book that you might enjoy
Sketchbox sounds like it was made for you Jenna! What a fun way to challenge yourself. ♥
A guilty pleasure now and then….:)
You are wise to create a time limit. I decided to draw for the Inktober challenge this year. I find myself spending 2-3 hours per day making the drawings and a few more hours per day looking at other people’s drawings.
