Fearless Friday, Pins and Needles

I am doing a painting a day for World Watercolor Month this July

There is a list of daily prompts here for inspiration

Yesterday’s prompt was “Jittery”

hmmmm, the first thing that came to mind

was “sitting on pins and needles”

I found a basket of yarn photo on Pixabay with knitting needles

and added some pins and sewing needles

Usually when I do a watercolor painting,

I do a light pencil sketch and often go over it with ink,

and then add color

Today I thought it would be fun to go backwards,

adding areas of color first and then add the details

I put water on the paper in the basket shape

and dropped color into it letting it bleed and spread

When the paint was thoroughly dry

I went back with a .01 fine liner pen to make the painting come to life

To finish, I added spatter in the various yarn colors

“Pins and Needles” 5″ x 7″ watercolor on 140 lb. cold press paper

Just a quick painting,

experimenting with a different technique…

Be Fearless and try something new!

Here are the paintings from last week

“Rough”

“Entwined” “Tickle”

“Savory” “Tactile”

“Pins and Needles” “Home”

9 days to go!

Jenna, you are so talented! I wish I knew how to paint. Your water color turned out so pretty. I also love the one you did of the fence row with the flowering vine. It is beautiful! Happy Friday! Have a wonderful weekend!

  8. Makes me want to knit something!

I think a basket of yarn and knitting needles is the perfect representation of “jittery.“ I have tried to knit in the past, and it makes me really nervous. People tell me that it’s relaxing. No, it’s not. My shoulders have never been so tense as when I tried to knit. This is just perfect.

I can’t imagine going backwards with painting, but it worked so well for you!

Very clever, Jenna! I love your take on the challenge. 😀
Art and writing prompt challenges are so much fun. Once I get settled around here, I would like to participate in one! Have a lovely weekend!

  12. I really love this one. Will it be going into Studio 6? I see Christmas coming! You’re so right about the liner pen and how it can bring things to life, especially looser things. I remember learning that from looking at Joan Walsh Anglund books back in my teen years and it’s a lesson that has served well. You really rocked that challenge — well done!

    • Thank you Jeanie, no this isn’t going into my Society 6 shop, it’s just a quickie doodle. I really rely on my pen for watercolors, I wish I could do more paintings without it though, that is much harder!

  13. Mary says:

Love seeing your artistic interpretations of your prompts Jenna! ♥
