Fearless Friday, Holiday Candle
Happy December!
Let’s light a holiday candle
to celebrate this special time of the year!

I painted this with watercolor
but the tutorial will work with colored pencils,
markers, or a combination of mediums also

I started with a pencil sketch
then inked over the pencil and erased
You can print this here and color along if you’d like

I started with soft red washes on the ribbon and berries

Then I added darker red which created highlights

Next I did the flame with yellow and orange

I painted a soft glow in the area around the flame
with a pale yellow wash

Shadows were added to the candle with silvery gray washes

The holly leaves were painted with a bright light green

Then darker areas were painted onto the leaves

To finish, I painted a shadow under the arrangement to ground it
“Holiday Candle” 7″ x 10″ watercolor on mixed media paper

Have some holiday fun and
Be Fearless!

Each week I love to see your beautiful sketches and paintings. I love this one especially. It reminds me of what Christmas is all about. Jesus, the light of the world!❤️
Thanks so much Nancy!
Jenna, I love the glowing candle and bright holly. Your Fearless Friday’s are alway fun. You make it look easy, but I can’t even draw a stick person! Happy Weekend!
Thank you Pam, big game today!
Very pretty. I especially love the glow of the candle light.
Thank you Linda 🙂
Beautiful, Jenna. I love the glow of the candle. ❤️ The addition of darks and shadows at the end really makes it pop.
Thanks Patty Anne!
I absolutely love it, Jenna! I like the stripe on the candle, and the glow-effect! 😀 Have a wonderful weekend, My Friend!
Thank you Ricki Jill, you too!
This is so pretty, Jenna. I particularly like the glow that you added around the flame. You’ll be proud of me, I actually bought a set of watercolors. That’s as far as I’ve gotten, but still.
That’s great Pattie, I can’t wait to hear how you like them, have fun experimenting and painting!
So merry and bright Jenna! ♥
Thank you Mary!
