Fearless Friday, Inktober 22

I haven’t been doing much art lately,
so to get myself going again
and return to daily sketching,
I’m joining the annual Inktober art challenge

Art challenges are such a great way to challenge yourself,
improve your skills and try new techniques
As you can see by reading the prompt list
you also will draw or paint things outside your comfort zone,
subjects you wouldn’t normally choose

It’s also fun to interpret the prompts in an unexpected way
which is what I did for #5, Flame

I often search for free images to use on Pixabay and Unsplash
I saw this horse and immediately knew
that is how I wanted to interpret flame

I drew the image with pencil, then inked over it and erased the pencil

Next I filled the shapes with black

Then I added some lines for interest

More lines in the “flames”

Then I used yellow watercolor to paint the flames,
then orange, and then red

I generally only spend between 15-30 minutes on these daily drawings,
so the challenge is a great way to include daily drawing in your busy day
And just like anything else,
the more often you do it, the better you will be!
Be Fearless and join an art challenge!
Doodlewash has a new challenge every month
you can get the prompts and learn more about it here
You can follow along and see all my drawings on Instagram here
I will be joining these fabulous parties and blogs:

Thank you Angie, I admire your skills in the kitchen!
Love these drawings, and your interpretation of flame! I like the scallops too!
Thanks Dorothy, it’s fun to try to put a twist on the prompts!
Jenna, your interpretation of flame is amazing. As I often say, your are so talented. Happy Friday!
Thank you Pam~ I’m on the coast this weekend, the weather is amazing! I hope you and RM can have a getaway down here soon…
What awesome talent you have! And creative interpretations as well.
Once again I can say You are Awesome!
Aw, thanks so much Nancy 🙂
I love that you try new things without fear. Your adventurous, fearless spirit in cooking, art, blogging and life. It comes through as confidence which is rare quality I love- I got all of this from one drawing! Can’t wait to see the rest of the month.
You must be my new best friend, thank you Leslie Anne, you have given me a much needed boost today!
I always love it when you share your art, Jenna. I should do Inktober!
Yes you should!! It’s lots of fun and you don’t have to do it every day…
I’m enjoying your Inktober Challenge posts on Instagram. I would do Inktober, but if I buy more art supplies (I do not own ink) Mr. Bookish would not be a happy camper, LOL!
Thank you! All you need is one little pen, he’ll never know 😂
These are challenging prompts. My favorite is your gargoyle. He has just enough cheekiness to make me smile while remaining a gargoyle!
Thanks Linda, the gargoyle was definitely a first for me!
Some interesting prompts Jenna, and your drawings are beautiful! I love the gargoyle, but the flame interpretation was inspired. You truly are a fearless creator!
Thanks Kim, not my usual subject matter, but it does force me to try new things…thank you for your always sweet comments!
Sounds like you’re having fun and getting back in the groove! It’s always nice to visit, Jenna. Thanks for sharing with us at Creatively Crafty 🙂
