Throwback Thursday, Easiest Ever Slow Cooker Beef Stew
We’re having a very cold week in Alabama
with snow Monday night and temps in the teens
Definitely the time for a bowl of warm comfort
This is a tried and true recipe that I’ve been making for years,
a good old fashioned beef stew

Not only is it delicious, it is so easy to prepare~
In under 10 minutes, you will have dinner cooking away
A slow cooker does all the work
and you can go off and forget about it all day!

The ingredients are beef stew meat cut into cubes,
red potatoes, carrots, Cream of Mushroom Soup,
Onion soup or dried Onion soup mixed with some wine,
salt and pepper,
AND
the secret ingredient
a dash of Dale’s steak sauce
Dale’s is so good, it adds a wonderful flavor to anything you put it on
we always use it on our steaks
It’s widely available in the South,
but if you can’t find it at the store you can order it
from Amazon here

Cut the largest potatoes in 1/2,
and then everything is ready to go into the crock pot
Spray the slow cooker liberally with cooking oil spray
and place the potatoes onto the bottom
Add the meat on top of the potatoes
Season with salt & pepper and drizzle with steak sauce

Put the baby carrots on top of the meat

Spread with Cream of Mushroom soup

And top with Onion Soup

Instead of Onion Soup
you can also sprinkle a package of dried Onion soup mix over the beef
and add a cup of wine or cooking sherry

Cover and cook on low for 8 hours,
stirring after 5 or 6 hours if you’re around
If not, just stir it a few minutes before serving

Good old fashioned comfort food…

Thanks Emily! We’ve been iced in too, I’ve been hibernating!
That looks really good — and really fast. And absolutely perfect for the kind of weather we’ve been having!
Thanks Jeanie, it’s been freezing here too, I’m not a fan of January!
We love beef stew at our house – and I always forget about using Dales. I need to get some more soon. My son will be home next week – perfect timing to send this recipe my way! Hope you stay snuggly and cozy!
Thanks Leslie Anne, the Dale’s really does make it~ enjoy your visit with your son!
The beef stew looks really great! I use slow cooker to make beef stew all the time, but never thought of using mushroom soup or onion soup mix. Definitely something I need to try.
Thanks Angie, it’s definitely stew season here, very cold!

Me too, set and forget!
Jenna, I was just thinking yesterday that beef stew would be good and my Daddy would love it with cornbread. Your recipe sounds and looks delicious! Dale’s is a staple here in my kitchen as is onion soup mix. This is a keeper recipe and thank you. Stay warm!
Thank you Pam! I just heard on the news that it’s supposed to be much warmer next week~thank goodness, I’ve had enough of this freezing weather!
How did you KNOW that I have been craving Beef Stew?!–must be the cold temps driving our need for a hot meal. I am definitely going to make this along with some Taco Bean soup and freeze portions for future cold days. Seems like this year there will be nothing but “cold and wet” in our winter forecast. I had to put the cat on my lap to keep warm today. Stay warm, Jenna! Georgia Gal
Thanks Georgia Gal, I hate this weather! I’ve been hibernating! Stay cozy!
We’re having the same kind of weather in OK with lots of wind. Your beef stew sounds perfect.
Thanks Linda, it’s tried and true, and great for winter nights~
Yummy Jenna and I just happen to have a pot of beef stew cooking right now. I added Golden Greek peperoncini and the taste is incredible…sorta like Mississippi Pot roast in a shortened form. LOL I have never added the mushroom soup but I will try that as I love that soup on everything. Stay warm! Hugs, Kari
Thank you Kari, enjoy your stew!
