Fearless Friday, Q-tip Art and Hydrangea Painting
I have recently been fascinated by art done with Q-tips,
those famous little cotton swabs~
Who knew they could be a paint brush too!

I love these dandelions by The Art Sherpa

This lilac tutorial by Debbie Chapman on Pinterest caught my eye

She started with simple green strokes for the flower stems

Then she used 4 swabs held together with a rubber band
and dipped them in a mixture of purples

Then she dabbed them on the {dry} stems

Then she went back with a single swab with a single color
to give them a little more definition

Here is a painting, source unknown, with Q-tip hydrangeas

That is a LOT of dots!

This is similar to the method I use for acrylic hydrangeas,
but my method is not as labor intense
On this cake dome I painted hydrangeas
with layers of larger dots created by dabbing my paint brush

Blue Hydrangea Cake Dome tutorial here
This same dot technique can be used with watercolor and a brush
When you paint hydrangeas with watercolor,
I like to use washes of color with the brush shape petals
to create the blooms

Sometimes I use a liner pen to give the flower petals more definition

This is a Q-tip Cherry Blossom Tree by Jasmine from Feeling Nifty
Whether you use Q-tips or a paint brush
you can create beautiful flowers with a series of dots!
Why don’t you give it a try and
Be Fearless!

Wonderful! I have a whole box of ‘brushes’ in my bathroom!
Haha, you are all set!
Who knew that you could use Q-tips as artist brushes! It is amazing and maybe I could do this! You are always fearless with your artistic talents!! Happy Friday, Jenna!
Thanks Pam, you should try it with the girls! Have a great weekend~
Not only is it beautiful, but it looks so therapeutic and relaxing!
I think the dandelions are especially cool!
When I lived in Texas my Kindergartners, used Q-tips to paint bluebonnets. They loved it. We never used multiple Q-tips, but that is a great idea for some of your projects (but probably not for kids😂).
Yes, Q-tips are great for kids art, and no brushes to wash!
A Q-tip – the great artists like yourself can use a variety of tools to create wonderful art!
Thanks Mary, it’s amazing how well they can work!
Wow! I cannot believe how beautiful that art is made with Q-tips. I never would’ve thought of something like that, but it really is lovely. I am also totally in love with your hydrangea cake dome. You are so talented.
Thanks so much Pattie, the Q-tips can produce amazing results!
The Q-tip art is really beautiful. I love hydrangeas and loved looking at all of your paintings. You make it look so easy that I who am totally not talented want to try it!!!
Thank you so much Judee, give it a try!
The Q-tips really do make a good paint brush, tricks of the trade that I wouldn’t have guessed.
I amazed how well they work!
I have never seen Q-tips being used as a paint brush but I really like it and will give it a try – thanks Jenna for your inspiration 😃
When I discovered these Q-tip paintings, I was fascinated~they really do work great! I look forward to seeing what you do with them Jill!
I definitely want to give this a try, Jenna. Baby steps, right?
I hope you do Ann, have fun!!
I am in awe at this method, Jenna! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Kitty, isn’t it fascinating?
Great project for kids, since sometimes they are intimidated with a brush…love all your colors for Spring! Sandi
Thank you Sandi!
Beautiful, and a great tutorial!
Thank you!
Well how fun is THAT?! Your creativity never ceases to amaze me. Who would have thought a Qtip could be so artistic? Thanks for another fabulous and inspiring tutorial!
Thanks so much Barbara!
This is such a neat idea and looks like a lot of fun. I love your hydrangea painting and I have always admired that hydrangea cake stand that you did. The Qtip hydrangeas are definitely a lot of dots (and a lot of Qtips too?). But I agree that it would be such a fun project for kids and adults alike. Love the lavender bee!
Thank you Kim! I think I’ll stick with my paint brush, but I was fascinated with the Q-tip technique!
Hooray for hydrangea season, ours are just budding! Such a fun way to paint Jenna! I just used Q tips to apply some Rub ‘n Buff to some napkin rings last week. 😉 ♥
Q-tips are handy things! I can’t wait to see your hydrangeas~
This is incredible!! I’m truly amazed at what q-tips can achieve with paint!! I’ll be sharing this in my Journey Jots newsletter this Sunday. Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks so much!
Just lovely… and so clever! I’m delighted to be featuring your post at the EXTRA BIG Tuesday Turn About this week! Pinned!
Thank you so much Julie!!
I don’t know why I never thought of doing this. And the best part is that I had to buy a whole bunch of q-tips for a very small need so I have plenty to work with. I’ve got to give this a try!
Oh good, please post what you create!!
I love your paage with all the inspiration on it.Thank you.
Thank you!
