Chili for Snow Day!
We rarely get snow in Alabama,
and when we do,
it is often chaotic and troublesome~
and always a very big deal!
But Friday’s snow was predicted
and schools had announced closings 2 days before
We had time to get groceries and necessities,
and people were ready

We woke up to a winter wonderland!

No sitting on the patio this weekend!

Super Teen’s truck was wearing a snowsuit

It was predicted that we would get maybe an inch or so,
and then it would melt later in the day…
but we actually got about 5 inches
and there wasn’t much melting at all

Big E got busy building a snowman

Then he went sledding

Nobody went anywhere on Friday!
It was definitely time for comfort food,
how about a nice bowl of chili?
Loaded Pumpkin Slow Cooker Chili is so good,
you really don’t taste the pumpkin
It provides a velvety texture and a little sweetness
to offset the heat from the fire roasted tomatoes and chili beans

White Chicken & Corn Chili can be made in the Instant Pot or Slow Cooker
are a perfect pairing with a bowl of chili
By mid day Saturday the roads were clear
but snow was still on the ground

We will need comfort food for a while!
I will be joining these fabulous parties and blogs:
Sundays on Silverado/ Happiness is Homemade
Between Naps on the Porch / Turn About Tuesday
Wednesday Linky Party / Karin’s Cottage Linky Party/ Creatively Crafty

Chili is a perfect comfort foonfor snow! We are still under last week’s snow, plus this week’s. I sure hope ours melts soon. It feels like when we were shut in for covid. Lots of cooking and baking going on in this house too!
Luckily for us things got back to normal quickly so we got to enjoy the snow and not have any problems!
Chilli is for sure a perfect treat for snowy days! Everything covered with snow is just so beautiful, isn’t it?
It was beautiful, and a rare sight for us!
We had chili last night for dinner! I love your snow photos, Jenna! You received more snow than us. On this cold morning with heavy fog and snow that didn’t melt yesterday, it has an ethereal look! Stay warm and Happy Sunday, Jenna!
Thanks Pam, we were certainly surprised by the amount we got! Thank goodness things were back to normal by mid day Saturday so we got to enjoy the snow without any problems!
So lovely. We got about 2 inches, enough to keep us at home. I’m making butternut squash soup for lunch on this cold day, then football snacks for Wild Card Weekend!
I love butternut squash soup Carole, I hope you post the recipe!
Jenna, your snow is beautiful! How fun to go sledding and build a snowman. A warm bowl of tasty chili and scrumptious corn muffins is the perfect comfort food for a cold winter’s day. We received 7 inches, and I have not seen a pretty snow like that in a long time. We are having Frito Chili Pies this afternoon. Your recipe sounds yummy, and I will be trying it soon. My youngest loves white chicken chili. I can’t wait to try your slow cooker recipe. Have a wonderful Sunday, and stay warm!
Thank you Shannon, and your Frito Chili Pies sound like great comfort food for a snowy day! Luckily, things got back to normal quickly and we were able to enjoy the snow without any problems!
The gift of a snow day!
We were surprised how much we got! Luckily, things were back to normal quickly so we got to enjoy the snow without any problems 🙂
I took a leftover spaghetti sauce, aimed it towards minestrone, and ended up with a very chili like dish. It was perfect on this cold day! Your snow was beautiful. In my part of OK we had some too, but not as much.
That sounds like a great soup Linda, very creative!
Am smiling! Altho’ in my part of Australia we normally do not get any snow I remember my childhood days in Europe only too clearly – snow was on the ground half the year. BUT nothing stopped – we did everything we normally did which included a couple of kilometres walk to school. Don’t think those were ever closed even when there was a metre of snow on the ground 🙂 ! One just ‘stomped thru’ and had huge fun doing so!
Our city just shuts down, we don’t have plows or anything to deal with it! Luckily things warmed up and everything was back to normal quickly!
Chile and corn muffins sound perfect for a snow day and what great recipes! I’m sorry for all your snow there Jenna – and 5 inches in a short amount of time wreaks havoc no matter where you are (even in Calgary lol). It’s usually the ice that causes all the problems. I hope it melts soon for you and that you stay warm and cozy!!
Thanks Kim! We got more snow than was predicted, and it was so beautiful. This time things were back to normal quickly so we got to enjoy the snow without any problems~
You have the perfect menu for a snow weekend! We make chili all winter as you can imagine 🙂
We enjoyed our snow days too Jenna! We had between 3-5 inches, depending on who was reporting. It was a winter wonderland!! We were well prepared and chili was on the menu here as well. Loved seeing your snow pics. Have a wonderful week……
Thanks Emily, it was beautiful wasn’t it! I’m glad things got back to normal quickly though…we still have quite a bit still in our yard.
Thanks Deb!
Oh that chili and corn muffins look delicious. Girl, that is a lot of snow. So pretty. I just talked with a friend in North Ga and she said, “Yep, snow is really pretty from the inside of the house”. LOL! Happy New Year Jenna. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
Thank you Cindy! Yes, we were surprised to wake up to 5 inches!
Chili is the perfect cold-day food, along with corn muffins! (And we have it all too often here!) I love seeingthe photos of snow in your world. That’s how I’d like it — pretty and there for a day or two — then gone!
Thanks Jeanie, we enjoyed having it for only 1 day and without problems!
You had a winter wonderland like we did! We still have patches of snow on the ground. I didn’t go out for three days because it’s treacherous driving here in Texas. Your comfort food looks perfect for those cold days, Jenna. Stay warm!
Thanks Kitty! The snow was beautiful and the roads were clear the next day so it didn’t shut our city down like it does sometimes so we got to enjoy it without the problems!
Hi Jenna, I thought I posted a comment but I don’t see it here, it must have vanished like our snow they predicted. 🙂 Love the fluffy white blanket you received, we got sleet and freezing rain which made it treacherous. It’s definitely soup and chili weather, I need to add some more recipes to our rotation! Stay warm ♥
It’s supposed to be really cold next week and there has been a mention of more snow…I am so done with January!
Snow and a bowl of red just seem to go together!
Perfect snow day food!
Hi Jenna, it seems like it’s cold and snowy all over the place this winter. The chili is perfect for a cold day. Thanks for sharing my corn muffin recipe. We got about 5 inches of snow and it’s been very cold here all week. I hope you stay warm and enjoy the rest of the week.
Thanks Julie, I love your corn muffins! We even got snow in Alabama, too cold for me!
