the Organized Life, 2013 to dos

I really want to dedicate 2013 to getting my household more organized. I am making a list of tasks and then assigning them to a month. Maybe by next Christmas I will have completed my list! I am only going to assign tasks from Jan. to Oct so I can dedicate my energies to the Holidays in November and December. I’m including a few photos for MOTIVATION! I am going to print this out and make an inspiration board to keep me focused throughout the year, adding photos and ideas as they come along. I am going to keep a visual board on Pinterest too.
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS THIS YEAR?
JANUARY
1. Organize pantry and island cabinets {photo from BHG.com}
I have a long way to go… the holidays were a little hectic!
Sigh…my dream pantry {photo from Houzz.com}
2. Deep clean entire house and garages {GROAN} This might take longer than just January! Martha, Help! See her cleaning check lists here
The ribbon in my wrapping station looks like this…hey, did I mention the holidays were busy?
and I want it to look like this {photo pinned from community.babycenter.com}
This whole section of the garage needs a little work! It’s probably not as bad as it looks…see, I’m trying to keep my motivation going here…
FEBRUARY
1. Go through cosmetics, clean out drawers and toss old products.
Put back only what you are going to use! Keep it NEAT! I’m talking strictly to myself here!
2. Polish silver. When I saw this photo on astylishinterior.com, I thought, I have one of those but it sure doesn’t look like that! I also haven’t polished my flatware since….hmmmm….in a long time.
3. Reorganize china closet. As you can see there is potential here, but I have some work to do! I am so messy…
This is the late Geoffrey Beene’s china closet, featured in the House Beautiful Entertaining book. Everything is grouped and accessible. He probably had people that polished his silver or it would be wrapped up like mine!
In my next life I want a Butler’s Pantry!
MARCH
1. Baby C arrives this month so probably not a lot will get done, but I can de-winterize and ORGANIZE my closet
A girl can dream can’t she? Wouldn’t it be fun to wallpaper the inside of your closet? {photo from BHG.com}
I can pretty much guarantee that my closet will NEVER look like this! {photo from BHG.com}
APRIL
1.Think Spring! This cute door decoration is from BHG.com. I want to bring spring into the family room with color and plants. I love these large pops of citron from the 2013 HGTV Dream Home.
Citron looks great with soft browns and silver too so it would work with a lot of my furnishings. I would love to have a hip new rug…
2. I need some new bed covers for Beach House, I like this from Pottery Barn…but I’m sure there will be lots more choices when the spring lines come out.
The king guest room would look awesome re-done like this! I’m scared of the white spreads though! {photos from Pottery Barn}
3. Prepare Beach Baths for seasonal guests with beachy products
I like to put fun stuff in the bathrooms for the guests to enjoy
MAY
1. Deep clean Beach house, clean out pantry and closets, organize dishes and get rid of old junky dishes
This vintage pie cabinet is great for holding my serving and decorative pieces
It’s pretty organized already, but it still needs some cleaning and straightening, right now I feel like I have to move a ton of stuff to get out what I want.
JUNE
these are things I can do wherever I am {hopefully on the coast all month}
1. Update recipes to try file. Delete recipes that have been there for more than a year, just like clothes in the closet, if you haven’t used them in a year you won’t need them. Clean up Pinterest boards and other idea virtual storage.
2. Update laptop, iPad & iPhone. Delete apps that aren’t used, delete photos and excess junk, go through old files
JULY
Update powder room and Master bedroom hallway. I love this fabric covered wall treatment from Numbered Street Designs
I would love to do something super modern and crazy…
This powder room is from the 2013 HGTV Dream Home on Kiawah Island. Gotta go BOLD!
AUGUST
Go through all photos, re group and eliminate, make boxes of old photos to give to children for their keepsakes
This looks pretty dreamy!
SEPTEMBER
1. FINISH all the projects started earlier this year!
2. Make a HOLIDAY PLAN calendar, schedule and plan shopping, crafts, blog and party ideas.
OCTOBER
1. Deep clean again in preparation for holidays, and declutter.
Start seasonal decorating! {Pottery Barn photo}
NOVEMBER
1. Christmas shopping {I am NOT waiting until Dec. 12 this year, WAY too stressful!}
Infused Olive oil or flavored Vodka would make nice gifts, but need to be started early. {photo from realsimple.com}
2. Christmas crafts: make decorations, friend gifts, wrapping
This cute DIY wrapping is from etsy.com
DECEMBER
1. Decorate {donate old decorations}
So many fabulous decorating ideas from this Victorian Christmas House Tour posted by Between Naps on the Porch
2. Cook and enjoy! Hey, maybe I’ll be so organized I can make a gingerbread house like this cutie from Twelve O Eight!
Do you have any helpful tips for me? I sure would appreciate it! What spaces are you organizing or updating this year?

Kenley
What is it about a new year that makes us want to get organized, declutter. Everywhere I look is something that needs doing which is overwhelming. Your lists sound like a good way to go.
I love how you’ve planned out your whole year a month at a time. I need to do this! Thanks for the great ideas and motivation! Have a wonderful day!
Ha! we shall see if it works! Thanks for visiting!
Oh… and after stating this morning that I too want a butler’s pantry, I stumbled upon this AMAZING dish room! http://betweennapsontheporch.net/dish-heaven/#
Kenley 🙂
I feel faint, HOLY COW! I can’t decide if I am more amazed by the amount of flatware she has, the napkin ring collection, or the fact that her husband actually KNOWS that she has all that stuff and built her the room! Thanks so much for sharing with me!
It was my pleasure!! I found it unbelievable. AND…it is something that is now going on the “Dream House List”! 🙂
Sounds like a plan. I am gonna org my dishes and craft supplies. We are clearing up garage space too..yikes! Lol.
Love your site!!! I’ve spent {a while now} browsing through your posts. So glad I found you via 36th Avenue! I’ll be visiting often!
Thanks for visiting!
I love the inspiration board to keep you motivated to complete your tasks.
I am right beside you on a good chunk of your to-dos (posted mine earlier this month). Looks like you do have a starting off point for your family room redo. I’ll be following along to see all the wonderful changes 2013 brings. Hope you’ll do the same. Thanks again for visiting this morning.
