Take-out Tuesday, Apple Walnut Pie Fries with 2 sauces

This recipe is so much fun, so silly easy, and has SO MANY possible variations my head is spinning with ideas~I bet yours will be too!
Do I have your attention?
OMG
Apple pie filling, walnuts, pie crust, more apple pie filling and caramel sauce. Enough said, let’s get busy!
Puree the apple pie filling
Spread it in an even layer on one pie crust dough round, just shy of the edges, and sprinkle with walnuts.
Top with 2nd pie crust dough round and brush with beaten egg. Sprinkle liberally with sugar. I used coarse brown sugar and some white sparkling sugar from the baking isle.
Cut into “fry” shapes with a fluted dough cutter or a knife and bake until golden brown
Careful! Don’t burn your fingers or your mouth trying to taste one! Be patient, let these puppies cool off…
Be sure to have some dipping sauce on hand, more apple pie filling puree, and some caramel ice cream topping
You are now smiling with delight
and probably drooling
I know, stop it, right?
Well, apples and nuts are healthy~
and the crust is just the vehicle used to get it into your pie hole sweet little mouth !
Can’t you just image the possibilities here? Blueberry, Cherry, Salted Chocolate Caramel…how about some savory ones like ham and cheese, or a taco filling? Serving sweet ones with a bowl of ice cream..…I will be making these again soon!
Here’s the recipe:

APPLE WALNUT PIE FRIES
Ingredients
- 1 Package of Pillsbury Refrigerated pie Crust 2 ct.
- 1 can Apple Pie Filling
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts about 1 small package
- 1 Egg
- Sparkle Sugar or coarse brown sugar
- Caramel Sauce for Ice Cream for dipping
- Reserved pie filling for dipping
Instructions
- Put 1 pie crust on a sil pat or a piece of parchment paper on a baking sheet. Spread an even layer of pie filling over 1 pie crust and sprinkle with walnuts.
- Top with the second crust and gently seal the edges. You will have leftover pie filling, reserve it for a dipping sauce.
- Brush dough with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.
- Use a fluted edge pastry cutter to cut dough into “french fries.”
- Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes or until golden.
- Serve with caramel sauce and reserved pie filling for dipping or serve these as a side with ice cream. Makes about 2 dozen. Can be made ahead and frozen.
