Creations, Finders Keepers!

DD is fixing up her laundry room and has asked me to help~”Just think, Mom, we could do a before and after and you could blog about it!”

Uh oh…..

Her birthday is coming up so I thought I’d make her a little surprise~just to get things started decor wise~

a funky sign board for decoration as well as a practical solution for odds and ends

You know, the stuff that always accumulates and you never know where to put it!

Her house is decorated in shades of gray and white,  with an occasional touch of navy

Her style is clean, modern and minimalistic

so I have to keep things toned down

The laundry room is a mud room by definition {being the passage way from the garage to the inside of the house} but it is really big, and needs some pops to make it inviting, and some simple organization

The washer and dryer are actually IN a closet with lovely folding doors, but DD wants to hang a curtain or piece of fabric behind them to hide pipes and ugly stuff.

“Why don’t you just close the doors?” I asked….silly me

“Mom, I do laundry all  the time, that would never work!”

Of course not!

So we are in the process of finding/making a curtain, and she wants to use a graphic print, either gray and white or navy and white

I painted the sign with ASCP Old white, added gray “bubbles” [ a little laundry room humor ] and used navy for the text and some dots around the edge.  I did apply a little dark wax, just to give the white paint a little character and depth…but not too much, DD is more modern than vintage.

Clothespins are glued on [E6000 bonding glue] to hold hanging buckets to collect pocket change, buttons etc.

Are you wondering about the black labels?

DSC_2052

They are chalkboard labels that I found in the wedding crafts section of Hobby Lobby!

These things are awesome! Tomorrow I will show you how I used them in some easy Halloween decor~

Thanks so much for your visit!

  1. What a fun idea! I wish there was a Hobby Lobby around here-enjoy:@)

what a darling house and such a cute addition! i love that idea of collecting the odd bits and pieces, done to perfection~ i have those same labels, not from hobby lobby, they are not out west, but from the most expensive store on the planet 🙁

  3. Great signs and I’m envious of your daughter’s mud/laundry room!

How cute that is, Jenna! Love the addition of the bubbles on the sign, and the little buckets are so cute with their chalkboard labels. Wow! What a wonderful laundry room she has! laurie

Jenna, What a cute sign and I’m sure her laundry room “redo” will be fun and creative knowing you! I had to chuckle at ‘Why don’t you just close the doors?” 🙂 Her style/house~ clean, modern and minimal is the polar opposite of mine! I have always had a laundry room in a narrow hall off the garage or here at the lake in a small closet-size space. One day…
