Creations, Repurposing an Old Table

Okay, I realize you might not need a Star Wars play table, but this is all about re-purposing and discovering possibilities…
While I was on baby watch for 3 long weeks, while DD was having contractions and any minutes, I went sort of project wild to keep myself distracted
Years ago I painted this table to match the decor in one of the guest rooms at the beach house. After lots of wear and tear I brought it home-I didn’t want to toss it because it’s a sturdy old thing, and I figured we could use it for something. It wasn’t until recently that the light bulb finally lit up and I got an idea…
“Hey” I said to Super Boy,”You know that old table out in the garage that we pile stuff on and sometimes you play on it?
“I guess”… he replied
“What would you think if I painted it to look like outer space, and you could play on it with your Star Wars legos?”
“YES!” [picture vigorous head nodding]
So we curled up with my computer and a session on Pinterest and he helped me design it~
He drew a rough sketch
Then I modified it a bit, and started painting
Sure, I know a little about Star Wars, and saw the first movie a long time ago, but Super Boy showed me some new stuff, like this “Death Star”
“I’m not going to put too much stuff inside,” I told him, “so you can use your imagination and change things up while you play….”
“okay,” he said, “But can you please put a big computer thingy on the wall with lots of knobs?”
“And, make the big gun, shooter thing green with some lines shooting out everywhere like it blew something up?”
“And the moon and some stars?”
“And maybe a little space ship waaaaaaayyyy off in space?”
I did a quick practice of the Star Wars logo on paper
Then painted it on the front of the table
There is a small formal living room off the foyer that we use as a study. There is also a toy chest in there and the boys can play in there and make a mess, close by, but not under foot, so it’s a great spot for this play table
We can whisk it off the garage when we entertain or want it out of the way, or drape it with a cloth
It’s large enough for lots of little hands,
And it’s a very big hit!
Juicy Details
I first painted the whole thing Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Paris Grey
Just one coat because I was adding a second coat of a different color. After the first coat dried, I painted a large circle with more Paris Grey, for the Death Star.
Then I outlined the circle with Annie Sloan chalk paint Graphite, and blended it out into Annie Sloan chalk paint Napoleonic blue and then Graphite mixed with Napoleonic at the far left
I added details with acrylic paint and then applied 3 coats of acrylic clear varnish
The best part of this whole project was that it was FREE. I love FREE
I also love coloring outside the lines 😊

Very cool! I’ll bet the kids love it! The only thing I really remember about Star Wars is how cute Harrison Ford was… But that’s enough:@)
