Fearless Friday, “Dreams & Plans”

Fearless Friday is all about letting go, trying new things, and having fun with a paint brush
We talked about the art of Getting Started recently,
While I’m working on the large canvas above, I wanted to share a painting I did several years ago which was inspired by several other artists
This painting by Nancy Standlee caught my attention with the bright colors and simplified shapes
Studying the styles of other artists is a great way to get inspired
This pillow from Pen and Paint wears one of my favorite sayings by Kobi Yamada
I combined these inspirations with some other paintings {see source below} into a large acrylic painting
“Dreams & Plans” acrylic on 16 x 30 x 2 1/2″canvas, 2012
It’s sort of a stream of consciousness collage of favorite things
love of cooking, music, beach life, reading,
French, fresh produce, positive thinking…
This is a wide edge canvas
I like to use these wrapped edge canvases and paint the edges, either by continuing the painting or using a decorative pattern which acts as the frame
I call this patterned edge “zebra”
The painting above inspired the way I treated the background
“Chefs in the Kitchen” is a painting I did for HHjr when he discovered his love of cooking, and inspired the chef in “Dreams and Plans”
“Dreams and Plans” inspirations

Jenna Meon Carolee Clark Tricia Robinson Art

Nancy Standlee Filomena Booth Purple Onion Designs
third row:
In Austin Kleon’s book, “How to Steal Like an Artist,” his basic premise is that there are no original ideas, that all ideas are the metamorphism of the ones before them, and thus original because of the unique combination each person puts on them. He says, “Steal Like an Artist!” It’s ok! we all inspire each other!

You are so talented! This painting is simply fabulous. I love it when you share your art. I do think it is very true in art as well as writing and other forms of creative expression that people are always influenced by what came before.
Thank you Ellen, I appreciate your comment so much because this painting is so personal to me, I was afraid to share it since it’s kind of crazy 🙂 >
Wow, Jenna. It’s so interesting how you combined everything into one painting inspiration.. That is awesome! I love the zebra frame, too. It sets it off perfectly.
Thanks Kim, I love to paint the edges instead of using frames >
