Fearless Friday, Peacock Dreams

I recently finished this commissioned painting which is titled “Peacock Dreams”
The client requested a 48″ H x 36″ W wrapped canvas abstract, mostly whites and grays, with touches of green, blue, and gold
The greenish-blue areas seemed to take on the form and feel of peacocks
It looks fabulous hanging in her Sea Grove Beach, Florida home
I started by placing the large canvas horizontally on my easel and painting the bottom portion with a medium gray
While the gray was still wet, I blended in metallic blue
Next an underpainting of off white and pale gray was blended from the top down
More shades of metallic greens and blues
Additional white, mixing and blending
Now for the fun part, adding gold and gold leaf
I used a squeeze bottle of thin acrylic gold and let lines run freely down the canvas in some areas, and added gold leaf in others
And then silver leaf
Do you see the peacocks?
It’s always hard for me to part with my paintings, but this one has a beautiful home
And I ordered a little memento for myself from Society6
“Peacock Dreams” is available on 20 different items in my Society6 Shop here
Thanks Nan, for letting me share your painting and beautiful home!
Have fun and Be Fearless!

Gorgeous Jenna! I know your friend must be thrilled with her painting and it looks perfect in her home!
Your painting is perfect in that beach house, Jenna! Yes, I see peacocks…gorgeous abstract!
This is so beautiful, Jenna. I’m never comfortable DOING abstract but I really love it when the colors speak to me. This has energy and movement, shape. Calm yet a certain excitement. It’s a stunner (and it looks terrific in their home.)
Gorgeous painting, Jenna. That home looks like it is the perfect place for your masterpiece. Have a great weekend, Jenna.
Omg! Holy swooning wowzers! Lovvvvvee!!!! 💚💙💛
Thanks Jodi! >
A stunning creation, Jenna! I love hearing your “thought processes” as you add each layer on one of your paintings. Your client must be elated with this final product and how beautifully it fits into her lovely home. Your artistic talent is amazing. Thank you for sharing all this. It was incredible to see those peacocks emerge as each layer was added. Bravo!! Rosie @ The Magic Hutch
Thank you Rosie, it was such fun to paint, I was secretly hoping she wouldn’t like it so I could keep it for myself 🙂 >
This is just stunning Jenna. I love the tutorial where you make it look so easy. The painting has great mouvement and energy. I see the peacock but for me it is feels more like water on a sunny day. The addition of the silver and gold leaf and runny gold paint is brilliant to capture and reflect light and move the eye around. Love it! Did you use any kind of adhesive for the gold and silver leaf? It looks applied directly on the paint. I usually paint on the spray adhesive they sell w gold leaf but the teacher I recently studied under in MN applies his directly to wet (Oil/cold wax paint) and says it adheres fine. I am waiting for my trial run of no adhesive to dry to test it. YOU should give classes!!!

I actually used Mod Podge because I applied the leaf after the acrylic paint was dry. I have used it on a lot of paintings, it works great as an adhesive and a sealer and it’s inexpensive. Water was actually on my mind while I was painting it, but somehow the peacocks took over~ thank you for the lovely comments! >
Beautiful! Peacock dreams…it must be in the air, atmosphere. I was considering buying a beautiful peacock garden statue this morning. Had to pray for strength not to buy it. This is beautiful!!
You make it sounds so easy. I really doubt that mine would look anything like that. I agree that it look beautiful in your client’s home.
Very elegant!
This is very pretty – and so nice in it’s new home. Everything in the room works perfectly with your painting. Happy weekend!
That is gorgeous and looks perfect in the client’s house! Great job!
Very pretty Jenna! I loved seeing the whole process from start to finish. Fascinating for a non artistic soul like me!

I just discovered this post. This painting is stunning! I haven’t tried abstracts yet, but wow, I’m going to have to give it a try now. 🙂
Thank you Robin, Peacock Dreams is one of my favorites…I actually did another very similar one for someone who saw it and wanted it!
