Fearless Friday, Peach Pie

Okay, since it’s been all about peaches this week on the Painted Apron, you probably saw this coming…

A peach painting~

Peaches are fascinating to me because if you look closely you can see many different colors in their skins

This Waterlogue version of the original photo really emphasizes the various colors

Experimenting with different photo editing filters is great for artistic inspirations

I printed the 2 photos for reference while I was painting

Most of my acrylic paintings begin with a black gesso underpainting

A simple color block backgound of blues and green makes the colorful peaches pop

The bright lime was mixed from Cerulean blue and Cadmium Yellow Medium

I like to let the black peek through for drama

Next came layers of exaggerated tones of pink, peach, yellow, orange and red, using mixtures of Cad Orange, Cad Yellow Med, Permanent Rose, Cad Red Light and Titanium white

This canvas is 10″ x 10″ and I wanted the painting to be fast and loose so I painted it quickly without any fuss, just large blocks of color

Final highlights and leaves

If there is anything better than your recipes it has to be your paintings. These peaches look good enough to eat! Have a wonderful weeekend Jenna.

  4. Jenna, I too love the colorful hues of a peach and you captured them perfectly! I have enjoyed all of your peachy posts this week…my favorite summer fruit. Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

  5. I love your fabulous peach painting. Underpainting is so much easier with acrylic than watercolor, which, if you aren’t really careful, I’ve discovered, can end up like mud! These colors are just fabulous — filled with color and light!

    • Thanks Jeanie, I’ve never heard of doing underpainting for watercolor, I can’t see that working at all…I think it’s fun to be able to get different effects with different mediums. I’ve never painted with oil but I know underpainting wouldn’t work for that either with its long drying time. Have fun experimenting!
