Tablescapes, Candyland

Is there anything cuter than the sheer delight candy brings to a child’s face?

The tricky part is keeping them from eating it!

The  gingerbread houses were ready for decorating with muffin tins full of goodies

And I was itching to do a little decorating myself…

I got out this gumdrop tree, made by a special friend years ago, along with a stash of candy I save just for decorative purposes

I warmed up the glue gun and got to work

After gluing the giant lollipops onto the gumdrops, candy canes and peppermints were added to cover the sticks

I think it turned out crazy cute!

And eyeballs got as big as saucers!

After a jolly afternoon of gingerbread house building, I set a table with all of the candy creations

Look at these masterpieces!

To make things easy, use house kits and hot glue them together in advance

frosting in a can is a real time saver and very user friendly

Older kids can manage squirting, and younger kids will need a little help

Charlie Brown {21/2} caught on right away and thought it was grand fun, he would put a candy on the icing, then he’d take it off, lick it and put it back on!

The kits came with a variety of candies, and I added some M & Ms and candy canes

The whole house smelled like a bakery shop!

An explosion of sweet treats!

Santa is watching from above to make sure no one tries to sneak a taste

The little artists were so busy licking their fingers and sampling candies they didn’t even touch the Snowy Cookie Tree, so I added it to the sweet vignettes in the kitchen

Ho Ho Ho, less than 2 weeks to go!

You’re such a fun, creative grandma, Jenna!! I know the kids have such fun at your house, and their creations are so cute. We will be decorating cookies on Christmas Eve, and I’d better use my muffins tins like you, and get a covering for my table. Thanks for your tips!

  5. I love this to the max! And your adorables are — well, adorable! Great idea on the pre-kits!

  9. Jenna, you are the grandmother extraordinaire! The grands are absolutely adorable and what a fun project. Seeing your gumdrop tree reminded me that I made a gumdrop wreath years ago! Your added sweets made it so cute! The gingerbread houses turned out fabulous! I will be trying that next year!

  10. This is the best idea ever! What kid (or even adult) wouldn’t love to sit at a table full of goodies and build a gingerbread house? It looks like everyone had a lot of fun, I know I would have. Thanks for the inspiration.

  11. Oh what fun. It is every child (and adult’s) dream. My home was exceptionally quiet for an entire week when my children were decorating their gingerbread house. The best memories. Gingerbread is my favorite. It makes for such a tasty decoration.

  12. How special and so fun. We love to decorate gingerbread houses and bake cookies with our grandsons. Merry Christmas!
