Recipe Box, Southern Favorites for Masters Sunday

Sunday at the Masters is a big day at our house

HH and HHjr are avid golfers and inherited the cherished tickets from HH’s father

they love to go for the first few days of the tournament,

but always come back before the last day

We gather around the TV to watch as the final round unfolds and the winner is given the coveted “Green Jacket”

The Masters Golf Tournament is one of the South’s grand traditions and if you are lucky enough to go, you will see this humble menu featuring simple Southern favorites

Not only does the menu never change, the prices don’t either!

I have done several posts about the Masters, highlighting Southern favorites, like Pimiento Cheese, but this year I am   sharing ways to update some of the simple Masters menu selections

Instead of the predictable BBQ sandwich of pulled pork on a bun how about

Cheesy BBQ Pork & Corn Nachos

Instead of a traditional club sandwich, try

Club Sandwich Lasagna

or

Club Sandwich in a Roll

Update a Chicken Sandwich by topping it with coleslaw

This chicken is coated with potato chips and baked instead of fried

Picnic Sliders with White BBQ Slaw

Instead of the same old boring ham & cheese sandwich,

how about

Ham & Swiss Spirals with Mustard Poppy Seed Butter

Sausage biscuits are good, but you can make them much better!

Try this do ahead casserole and be prepared receive compliments

Sausage & Gravy Biscuit Bake

Instead of an Arnold Palmer, a popular drink made with ice tea and lemonade, have a “Firefly” cocktail…it’s made with Sweet Tea Vodka and lemonade…it’s delicious!

or try this cake or cupcakes, you can use sweet tea instead of sweet tea vodka if you prefer

Sweet Tea Lemon Poke Cake or Sweet Tea Lemonade Cupcakes

The Georgia peach ice cream sandwich with sugar cookies is very popular at the Masters, but it is only one of endless variations that can be made with different ice cream and cookie flavors

I like to use small cookies, and make small sandwiches and roll the edges in chopped nuts or sprinkles.

Try chocolate mint chip ice cream and chocolate wafers

Chocolate chip cookies with butter pecan ice cream

Peanut butter cookies with chocolate fudge swirl ice cream

You can buy the cookies if you don’t want to make them, I like to use Tate’s, they are thin and crispy

Endless Possibilities!

You can make them in advance, wrap, and keep them in the freezer until right before serving

Ice Cream Party Bites

Enjoy the flavors of the Masters any time you want!

  2. Jenna, I will have sausage and gravy biscuit bake please. What a wonderful compilation of new twists on some favorites! I am amazed that the prices have never gone up! Happy Sunday!

  3. Jenna, you always have the best ideas. All. Of these recipes have me wanting to cook up breakfast! It’s cold here so the sausage and gravy would be perfect.. With the rain. Yesterdaywe watched some of the Masters,, how could. The course and grounds be more beautiful. Thanks. Jeana for the recipes. (Sorry. About the punctuation my. iPad. Has gone off on it’’’s own)

  4. I don’t know where you find the time!! I drool over every post! Everything looks delish!!

  5. Jodi says:

OMG I just finished dinner and I want every single one of these!!!

  6. Jenna, I need to pick your brain for fun baseball watching treats! Goodness, y’all had the best food for the Masters!!! I don’t know which one looks best….they all look so delicious! It was so cold here yesterday….and it was raining. Our neighbors hosted a Masters crawfish boil and I felt so sorry for them because it was hard with all the crawfish being cooked outside and everything….but we still had a great time! Super post!!!!

  7. I haven’t made ice cream sandwiches in a long time. This is a good reminder. Lots of yum here, Jenna. I don’t know how you keep your girlish figure with all this. Hat’s off!

  8. I am not a golf fan. I tend to agree with whichever comedian it was who described golf as “a nice walk, ruined.” 🙂 But these recipes all look phenomenal! The sausage and biscuits with gravy bake looks particularly intriguing. Believe it or not, I have never had biscuits and gravy. I love the idea of trying it in casserole form.

  9. I am sure your family would rather be at home watching the last game with the most scrumptious food that you will have for them!….My hubby has only been to the Masters Tournament once…was invited by a past winner….it was truly an amazing experience….

  10. Jill Kuhn says:

Yum! Looks so delish! Hubby watched the Masters Golf Tournament yesterday while I did a little watercolor painting. 😃

  11. Hi Jenna, I don’t think we do parties for the Masters Tournament up here, or if we do, I haven’t been invited to any! But it sounds like a great idea and if they are anything like yours I would be extremely interested! I can NOT golf. Hubby goes with friends. After two holes I’m frustrated and then the bugs start and the stupid little ball goes missing and I stick to mini golf, which I do love. Yum, I just had to scroll back because those ham and cheese spirals are calling to me… I need to stop reading your posts when I’m hungry because I want EVERYTHING!! Linda

  12. Mary says:

I know they must look forward to attending the Masters every year. I remember last year when the azaleas had already bloomed with the too warm spring in contrast to this year…brrrr! Everything looks delicious and I’m craving pimento cheese now 🙂
