Fearless Friday, Cock-a-Doodle-do!

There is just something about roosters and chickens that always makes me smile…
I saw a photo of a beautiful rooster that made me instantly want to start painting
I started with yellow and orange washes
I like to keep my inspiration photo close to my painting on the easel
More color washes establishing his shape
Then I began to define his face and head
More details and layers of color
Feather texture with lots of loose, thin strokes
The tail feathers are very abstract, layers of tones and shapes to indicate his bushy feather tail
Beginning to lay in some background with light washes and more details on his chest
and he’s done!
“Cock-a-doodle-do!”
Have fun and Be Fearless!

Roosters and chickens have always found their way into my home. Many plates with their faces. How handsome your guy is! As I always say, you make it look so easy! Have a wonderful weekend….
Thanks Emily, I have been tempted to get some rooster or chicken plates, but so far my will power is holding up!
This rooster makes me happy!

The king of the barnyard. He’s handsome and you really captured his great look. Well done!
thanks Cyndi, he was fun to paint!
I admire the freedom of your work and that you don’t have to sketch in every detail — and it always looks fabulous!
Well, I quickly realized I wasn’t going to be able to get all of him on the page…that’s where sketching first is helpful! But I decided to just go with it…
You have the gift. I enjoyed your stages and how you see what to do. I don’t have the eye at all but I appreciate yours.
Thank you Bonnie, much appreciated!
You are astounding, Jenna! I love, love, love your rooster’s colors and the texture of his feathers!! Once again, BRAVO!!!!!
oh goodness, thank you Rosie!
