Creations, Wine Bottle Gnomes

Gnomes seem to be taking over the holidays this year!

I have been tempted to buy some, they are pretty irresistible!

But I decided to make some instead…

Do you ever get an idea and just have to follow up on it right then and there, no time for shopping, you just have an overwhelming urge to get started?

Yeah, me too!

I had 2 empty wine bottles and fluffy white yarn in my craft stash

Alas, no red felt, but 2 shades of green

I mixed lengths of puffy white yarn with lengths of fuzzy white yarn for interest and texture

Hot glue made quick work of securing the yarn to the bottles

Before you know it, you have a full beard!

Now for the hat

I centered it over the top of the beard yarn and secured it with glue

Next, wrap it around until it overlaps in the back

Trim excess and secure seam with glue

Roll yarn into a ball forming a pom pom

Gather the top of felt evenly, glue it together and then glue yarn pom pom on top

A nose was fashioned out of a large flat backed glass bead {craft store vase beads}  and I used cotton balls for the hat  trim

I painted the “nose” an orange-pink to match the pom pom

The second dome was made in the same way, but he has a sea shell nose and lime glass beads on his hat, with cotton ball pom pom

The yarn tree was made simply by tightly wrapping a styrofoam cone with fluffy orange-pink yarn

The tree got a white yarn ball pom pom on top

Mix and match gnomes from my craft stash and bottles

cost:  Free!

Stop back by on Friday and I’ll show you how to paint gnomes!

Cute as can be – maybe I’ll try to make one! In my spare time! (spare time, what’s that?) Some times I crack myself up…
    Thanks for the inspiration!

  2. These are seriously cute! If there is anything I have around here it is wine bottles and yarn. Probably not white, but roving would work, too!) I’m sure I could dig up some felt somewhere. Pretty darned adorable! I’m thinking if you glued the beard to the hat instead of the bottle, you might be able to make it be one of those wine bottle covers (the hat would come off to open and pour?) Might be floppy but could work. So many possibilities. So little time…
