Holidays, Transistions

Please tell me your house isn’t perfectly decorated for Christmas…

With a beautiful table set for Thanksgiving too…

and wonderful aromas drifting from your kitchen…

It’s not?  Oh good!

Because I’m in the stage I like to call a Holiday Hot Mess!

Things are migrating…

It feels wrong to put fall away a week before Thanksgiving…

But I’ll be gone all next week and when I get home it will be December!

I can’t decide if I want to be Calm and Bright

Or

Oh so Ho Ho Ho and Merry!

Gnomes are really trending this year…

There’s still time to make these easy Wine Bottle Gnomes and a Yarn Covered Tree

Here’s a tutorial for Painting Gnomes too

If you’re in a Holiday Hot Mess Transition like me

This Holiday Queso is perfect for Thanksgiving or Holiday parties

You can decorate your Chandy for Thanksgiving by adding a golden pine cone garland

Then add pops of holiday colors later for a Sparkling Holiday

I got a little carried away last year,

and decorated the outdoor fireplace even though it was still under construction

I can’t wait to dress it up this year!

So far we’ve gotten rid of some of the pumpkins

and put lights on the tall trees flanking the fireplace

Next we’ll retire the orange lights until next fall

and HHjr wants to put more white or colored lights around the chimneys

I made a large Advent Calendar for the boys 5 years ago

They were only 6 and 2 years old

Needless to say, they loved opening their bags everyday to find a treat, or small toy

As they’ve gotten older,

I have also included chores, and other activities in their bags

As well as candy or a treasure hunt

But it’s getting harder and harder…

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

  1. Jenna, I can’t imagine you a hot mess. It seems that you do everything with such ease and grace. Your boys are so handsome and look so grown up now. There are so many gift ideas in your shop. Happy Thanksgiving Week

  2. Mary says:

Jenna, I’m still in Thanksgiving mode with visions of sugar plums dancing my head. I’m pulling out the tree and decorations this week but I have a feeling it’ll be a holiday hot mess at my house for a couple of weeks to come with Thanksgiving falling a week later this year. I can’t believe how grown up your grandboys are…they look so dapper in their suits! Happy Thanksgiving week and sales to you! 🦃🎄🎄

  3. Bonnie Morgan says:

Wonderful pictures of your grandsons! They are very handsome!
Jenna, you are amazing decorating two houses and always cooking amazing things! I don’t get a fourth done of what you do!
    Have a great Thanksgiving.

  4. Nancy says:

A HOT MESS?? You?? No way!

Thanksgiving is late this year which makes us want all the Fall vibes with Christmas peeking in at us. And you said it perfectly. It’s transitional.

Your grandsons are quite handsome! And I am sure they still love your heartwarming Advent calendar Bags! They will always cherish those memories!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

    • Happy Thanksgiving Nancy, I am not really stressing about it, but it’s pretty funny to walk through my house, Christmas is in the dining room and foyer and Thanksgiving is in the kitchen and den 🙂 I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  5. Nope, it won’t be Christmas around here until Thanksgiving is over. My hot mess will come on Friday, when the boxes for both holidays will come out, and I’ll work all day putting away fall and bringing out the red and green. When we’ve been gone for Thanksgiving in the past, I wait until we get back to do the transition. But Thanksgiving is as late as it can be this year, so sometimes rules have to bend.

  6. Shannon@Belle Bleu Interiors says:

Jenna, you always amaze me with all you do….with the decorating and cooking of such delicious looking dishes! I can’t even imagine you being a hot mess! Your grandsons look so handsome in their suits. My kids would love an advent calendar like that! You are so creative and the best grandmother! Happy Sunday, sweet friend!

    • Thank you Shannon, the calendar has been fun for all of us, I try to find things at the Dollar store etc. but it’s getting harder now that they’re older…I think they are going to get more chores and Santa’s helper things this year!

  7. Jill Kuhn says:

Hi Jenna, I look forward to seeing your Christmas decor for this year! You always have something wonderful and creative to share… 🎄💕 When my nieces and nephews got to be difficult to buy for, I gave movie gift cards. They were always a big hit! 😊 Have fun decorating! 😍

  8. So many wonderful ideas! You couldn’t possibly ever sleep…

  9. pattyanneart says:

So many wonderful options, Jenna. I’m always inspired by your beautiful decorations. ❤️❤️

  10. Deb cantales says:

Jenna, I can’t imagine that you even sleep. You get more accomplished in a week than I do in a year. The boys are so handsome and look so grown up in their suits. I have been perusing gift ideas in your shop. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

    • Oh thank you Debbie, I have a ton of help I assure you…when I got to the beach house yesterday, my son had already stocked it with groceries and cooked a wonderful dinner…I can’t believe my little boys are so grown up now! I hope you have a very blessed Thanksgiving holiday

  11. Rita C. says:

Holiday hot mess, lol! I love it, Jenna, you nailed it! I am still loving my winter moon pillow from your Society 6 collection. I was so tempted to completely change my Christmas decor to that blue and green color scheme (talk about inspiration! It goes really well with our condo stainless and many gray paint colors), but reason prevailed as I kept lugging the 7 tubs of Christmas decor in and out of storage. I am still purging things, so once those tubs dwindle…..
Your boys are so handsome! With your creative brain, I am certain you will never run out of ideas for the advent calendar. Besides, repeating things each year is what makes it tradition, right?

    • Thank you Rita, you are so right, repetition does make tradition! I know what you mean, I would love to change things up but I really want to make a dent in the purge category myself! I am so glad you are still loving Winter Moon 🙂

  12. Kitty says:

Your grandsons are so handsome, Jenna! They must really look forward to their special Advent Calendar that you created. I decorated over the weekend since my daughter is hosting Thanksgiving. It sure takes me long any more to get everything done. Happy Thanksgiving week to you and your family.

  13. True confessions. I laughed OUT LOUD when I saw that first pic of the holiday gnomes and the autumn pumpkins because that is my world. Snowy boughs on one cabinet; a colorful autumn swag on another. And beyond. It will right itself. Not soon enough, but it will! I have to keep telling myself that!

  14. Oh I adore the pictures of your handsome grandsons! Nothing like the grands is there Jenna? Love all of the pictures. Girl, my girls came for dinner after church yesterday and helped me and my Christmas is up. Well except for my dining table! Thank the Lord for their help this year. Seems I never have enough time lately…or it might be that it takes me all day to do what I used to do in a few hours!!!! We have Thanksgiving dinner at my FIL home each year so I like for my Christmas to be up before Thanksgiving. I want to enjoy it a little longer. Hugs an blessings, Cindy

    • Thank you Cindy! I left my house neat, but confused, Christmas in the dining room and foyer and Thanksgiving in the main room and kitchen…I am at the beach house for the week and just not going to worry about it 🙂 Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  15. Iris says:

How about a decorated Christmas cookie – a snowman or Christmas tree – from the bakery. Do they like matchbook cars? The front area in Targets that has so many reasonable items that might be appropriate for each of them. My hot mess begins shortly. Enjoy your holidays.
