Gifts from the Kitchen, Halloween Birthday Basket

We were supposed to be on the coast this weekend celebrating DD’s birthday

We started seeing rain in the forecast on Tuesday

All of a sudden, by Wednesday morning

there was a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico

We reluctantly called off the weekend…

And by Friday, we knew we had made the right choice

It is not fun to be on the coast during high winds and flooding rain!

Hmmm,  I decided do a little Halloween decorating…

I refreshed an old Halloween wreath with new ribbons and a sunflower

and made a matching bow for the mailbox

As I decorated, I kept wondering how can I make DD’s birthday special…

Home Goods to the rescue

DD loves candles and these cuties can be enjoyed by her whole family

Then I tucked in a few healthy treats

Even if you can’t shop at HomeGoods

there are a lot of interesting snack/treat choices at the grocery store

A bundtlette cake stack from Nothing but Bundt cakes was tucked in the center

I tucked in a new carry all pouch set for her purse

because I noticed the ones she is using are worn out

For a pop of color and freshness

I added sunflowers in a painted black bottle

A witch hat {and a check} for the final touch!

We went out to dinner {adults only}

at a trendy local restaurant and had a fantastic time!

Luckily Nestor passed by quickly with no harm to our area

and we will have a chance to go again soon

  1. Happy birthday to DD! I love gift baskets and the recipients of yours are most fortunate. If only we had a Home Goods and Trader Joe’s. We had rain all of yesterday and we needed it. Have a wonderful week Jenna!

Happy Birthday to DD! You make the best gift baskets, Jenna! And food! (I made the wicked chicken crockpot this weekend and it’s SO good, even Picky Mr. P. ate it!!). I love your little zippered pouches for the purse. Little bags can get so scody looking after being tossed around in a bigger tote or purse after a while.
I didn’t realize you are just 1 mile from the FL state line! Glad that storm is going by quickly. It seems Sept is the worst for hurricanes, but I’m holding my breath for a few weeks more that the season ends quickly.

  3. Nancy says:

Happy Birthday to DD! And what a special basket you made for her! What great ideas since Thanksgiving is coming and gathering with friends and family… these would be special for gift giving at that time!

  4. Nancy says:

I forgot to mention… Glad your house on the coast did fine and all are safe. Happy week to you!

  5. lulu says:

I’ve been so immersed in baseball this week I completely missed the tropical storm!
Receiving one of your gift baskets would be a real treat. What would we do without Homegoods/TJ for those special finds?

  6. What a fun gift basket you put together for your DD…and I guess your really did dodge a bullet on Nestor—seems storms keep getting worse no matter where or when!

  7. Sarah Anderson says:

Happy, Happy Birthday to your sweet daughter. I like the idea of gift baskets. It’s sorta like filling a stocking, fun to pull it all together. Glad the storm passes you by. We could use some much needed rain here in central TX.

    • Thank you Sarah, we ended up going to a super cool new restaurant that was wonderful… we will all be on the coast for Thanksgiving, it’s so nice to be close enough to be able to go any time…I hope you get some rain soon!

  8. What a lovely basket of wonderful treats that will be enjoyed for a long time!

Love your gift baskets, Jenna! They are so fun. 😀 Hope your daughter had a wonderful birthday! 💚🌼

  10. Sheryl says:

I like how you refreshed the Halloween wreath. It is beautiful.

  11. Bonnie Morgan says:

Happy Birthday to DD! Sorry, you missed the beach but you had a great time despite the weather. We got much-needed rain from the tropical storm.
Your gift basket was very nice. I recognize your art on the carry-all pouch. It is pretty.

    • thank you Bonnie! We ended up going to Ovenbird for dinner, it’s owned by Chris Hastings, and wow it is really fabulous…next time you’re in Birmingham you should check it out, very cool atmosphere and creative food…

  12. Mary says:

Sorry Nestor wreaked havoc on your weekend plans but glad there was no damage! I know DD had to love all the goodies in her basket ♥

  13. I love making gift baskets. They’re as much fun to give as to receive. I’d say your DD really has something to celebrate — both the birthday and the arrival of such a great gift.

On another note, I am so glad you are all right and no real damage due to the storm. It doesn’t sound pretty.

  14. Kitty says:

Happy Birthday to your DD!n I’m sure she loved the gift basket of goodies and the dinner at the restaurant. It’s good that you skipped the coast and partied anyway. We had tornado warnings last night around Dallas. I’m making your hocus pocus party dip right now. Thanks for sharing your gift basket ideas.

    • Oh scary, how close are you to where it hit? Thanks for the birthday wishes, we ended up going to a cool new restaurant, it was my son, daughter, her husband and me, no children, it was quite a treat and we had a ball 🙂 Thanks Kitty!

  15. Jill Kuhn says:

Glad to hear the storm didn’t cause you any terrible damage, Jenna! 😊 I love your baskets! You have such a creative talent for them!! 🌼🍁🎃

  16. thefrenchhutch says:

Sorry you had to cancel the trip for DD’s birthday. Your basket is filled with such fun goodies and dinner out is always nice. I love making baskets and this is a reminder I need to start gathering goodies for holiday baskets. Have a great week.

    • Yes, we were looking forward to family fun at the beach, but it’s not fun when it’s raining and you have a wild 4 and 6 year old! Holiday baskets are a great idea!! Have fun collecting 🙂
