Fearless Friday, Fall Bounty

Happy October!

I’ve been having fun painting Fall and Halloween themes

“Off to the County Fair,” watercolor and ink

” The Witch’s House,” ink, marker and colored pencil

“Harvest,” ink, colored pencil

Earlier this week I enjoyed creating a cornucopia of Fall’s bounty

This was inspired by this beautiful MacKenzie-Childs pillow

I changed a few things, adding sunflowers, a gourd and autumn leaves

I began by sketching the cornucopia first

and adding the elements from the pillow I did want to include

I inked in these elements, refining the sketched shapes

I added sunflowers and the pattern for the checked pumpkin

I decided to add another gourd next to the sunflowers

and finished the composition by adding a couple of leaves

Crosshatching* conveys the basket texture

*intersecting sets of parallel lines

I used a pen to fill in the checks on the pumpkin,

purposely leaving a little white showing

and began to paint the cornucopia and gourd with watercolor

I always keep a color chart handy for quick reference

and a piece of paper to test colors as I paint

I finished the grapes and added a shadow under the basket

Once it was finished I gave it a final splatter of color

“Fall Bounty” 7″ x 10″ watercolor and ink on mixed media paper

I use mixed media sketch books for my daily art

and my favorite size is 7″ x 10″ for small drawings or paintings

and 11′ x14″ for larger creations

Amazon has them available at great prices

7″ x 10″ here and 11″ x 14″ here,

Many other sizes are available also

As an Amazon Associate I receive a small commission for any purchases made through these links at no cost to you. These recommendations are based on my own experience and usage

I added this design to my Society 6 Shop,

thinking the Coasters or Serving Tray

would make a great Thanksgiving host or hostess gift,

and wouldn’t it be fun to arrive at the celebration

with a Tote Bag full of goodies!

I hope your day is filled with sunflowers,

pumpkins and the bounty of the season!

Be Fearless!

Love “Off to the County Fair” and “Harvest”–My husband used to drive a red truck so I am a sucker for such pictures–brings back memories of wonderful years we shared. I like the scarecrow in the pumpkin patch, too–particularlly since I am fall cleaning and my hairstyle looks a little like hers today! : ) You are such a talented lady. Georgia Gal
