Fearless Friday, Whimsical Tree Designs

Several weeks ago we made Holiday Bags, Tags & Wraps

with a Santa design, a string of lights and a reindeer

Today we’re going to draw some whimsical trees

that you can also use to make quick gift tags, cards

or even painted ornaments!

The Curly Swirly Tree, top right,

starts with curl or “S” strokes

Start at the top center of the paper or cardstock and draw curly strokes

down on both sides and the center, connecting them as you go

Place the strokes in a triangular tree shape

Next you can enhance them by making some of the curls wider

by adding an extra stroke then filling them in with short lines

I started with a .01 fine liner pen,

but then switched to a larger nib .05 pen

and went over the original lines because I liked the thicker lines better

You could also use a red or a green pen

I decided to add a pop of color with dots

I used Zig Clean Color Dot pens

You could also color the stripes red and turn it into a

Peppermint Candy Tree!

I thought of this as I was writing the post

so I did a quick {messy!} mock up in PicMonkey

just to give you a glimpse of how cute it would be!

You can also create a tree with markers and simple shapes

Again, start at the top and add loopy shapes in varying sizes to form the tree shape

I used 3 colors of green and drew the outlines then went back and filled them in

You can use as is or add a star and lines

I saw this ornament from Crate & Barrel on Pinterest

It retails for $10 but you can easily paint one using plain ornaments,

that cost less than $1, and paint a simple tree with a small brush or paint pens

Did you know they make glitter paint pens?

You can find them on Amazon here

I didn’t have an ornament to paint but I drew one so you could get the idea

Just a few lines and dots!

I hope you will give these trees a try and create something fabulous!

  1. This is terrific, Jenna. And I may be clicking that link for the dot pens. I haven’t seen those before and they look far more reliable than my “original” dots! These are so cute — been amping up to do some card painting when my guest leaves. I might keep some of these ideas in the back of mind!
