Fearless Friday, Butterflies

Let’s have some fun experimenting with butterflies today

These simple butterflies are just composed of a few strokes,

and you don’t have to be an artist to paint them

Let’s start with the pink butterfly

A black curved line with watercolor with a small fine tipped brush

for the body and head

Pink strokes with a large round brush

A few more strokes with red were applied while pink was still wet

so it blends in a little

Next, the blue and green butterfly was painted in a similar way

with the wing shapes roughly suggested

A little splatter

Loose lines with a fine liner to further indicate the wings

I painted the third butterfly with blue lines

This time I drew the head and body with a .08 liner pen

Blue lines with watercolor

I went back with a brush loaded with clear water to soften a bit

I added more blue lines

Then, when it was dry I lightly outlined the wings edges

to suggest the overall shape

So what do you think?

Do you think you could paint a butterfly?

Give it a try and

Be Fearless!
