Fearless Friday, Watercolor Radishes
I love to paint radishes,
there’s just something about them that fascinates me
I’ve painted them in pastel
I’ve painted them in acrylic
and I’ve painted them in watercolor

Today we’re going to paint them with watercolor again,
using a more fast and loose method

I used photos from Pixabay and Unsplash for reference

Start with making the radish head shape

I used several shades of pink, red, and yellow for the heads

A mixture of lime green and bright grass green for the leaf shapes
I used a Grabie Watercolor Paint Set
It has 50 colors and comes with a handy color chart
I also like to have a practice paper next to my mixed media pad
to test the color washes and for practicing strokes

More deep green was added to the leaves

Deeper color washes were added to the radishes
and the roots were painted

Once the finished radishes were dry,
I loosely sketched the shapes with a .01 fine liner pen

“Watercolor Radishes” 6″ x 9″ watercolor and ink on mixed media paper

Happy Painting,
Be Fearless!

Love cherry radishes…never thought of painting them LOL…
I like eating radishes Jenna and my neighbor has grown some long tubular ones (I have only seen the round ones) but my point is I would like to see you paint them as they have such beautiful colorization. Have a great week end my friend.
I would love to see them Kari, can you take a picture?
My husband loves radishes. – using the pen at the end really makes them look so interesting and makes a big difference. – happy weekend!
I love this “scribble” technique, it’s so much fun 🙂
These look good enough to eat!
Thanks Dorothy!
Jenna, I love the watercolor radishes! Painted veggies are perfect art for the kitchen! Wishing you a lovely Friday and Happy Weekend
Thanks so much Pam, and same to you!
Thanks for another great tutorial!
Happy painting Michelle!
You should paint watermelon radishes. They are super cool looking! Especially cut! 😀 I enjoy seeing your art, Jenna. It inspires me!
I love this loose “scribble” technique, it’s so much fun! I had to google watermelon radishes, I’ve never seen them before, they do look just like watermelon!
I recommended your blog to a friend who is just beginning to explore watercolors. I think when summer travels, etc, settle down for her that she will enjoy your tutorials.
Thanks so much Linda!
Love how you painted this especially the ink at the end. Thank you for sharing what watercolor you used as well.
Have a lovely weekend.
Thank you Nancy! My daughter gave me that watercolor set for Christmas and I love it, so small, you can stick it in your purse and take it anywhere. Have a good weekend!
I love these, Jenna. It’s so darned hard for me to “paint free.” I need to try your well done tutorial to try to loosen up here. Maybe this week, during art camp. I’ll let you know how it goes!
Thanks Jeanie, I love this technique, it’s a lot of fun!
These are so cute Jenna, and I must say that I never would have thought of painting radishes. But you’ve done several of them. I love them all, but this one feels light-hearted and whimsical, so perfect for summer! I had to google watermelon radishes too as I’ve never heard of them. They do look really cool, actually, like Ricki Jill says. Thanks for sharing your wonderful talent and happy Monday to you!
Thanks so much Kim, there is just something about radishes that draws me to them, I like to paint tomatoes too. I’m going to paint bell peppers today!
Love your watercolor radishes Jenna! I agree with Ricki Jill about watermelon radishes. Happy Tuesday ♥
Thanks Mary 🙂
