Watercolor Flowers Anyone Can Paint!

Recently we talked about Painting Flowers with Simple Strokes

Today we are going to paint simple flowers

into a beautiful bouquet

It’s been a while since I’ve done any watercolors,

and I just dove right in and painted a few simple stems

I had so much fun,

I decided to do another one for Fearless Friday

using the photo below for inspiration

Start with the flowers,

painting them with several loose strokes,

varying the tones

You really can’t make a mistake,

the flowers are very abstract

You are just placing them in position before you add details

Once the 4 flowers were in place

I began adding darker tones of yellow

Then leaves and stems…

put them anywhere!

Abstract Watercolor Bouquet

The freedom of painting like this was such a joy

and I loved the way it turned out…

BUT

my black fine liner pen was itching to join the fun,

so I decided to try it on the first bouquet to see if I liked it

Which one do you like better?

It’s amazing how much the liner changes the look and feel of the paintings!

I liked the first bouquet without the liner

And I liked the 2nd bouquet better with the liner

Try painting abstract flowers and most importantly,

have fun!

Be Fearless!

I love flowers–real and in artwork. I prefer the one on the left as it is so soft.

You have so much talent Jenna…I love both also. Hugs 🙏🏻❤️🥰

Love them both Jenna! Have you ever tried accenting a watercolor with just a few lines from your fine liner pen, sort of like how a shadow would fall? It might be an interesting accent. Happy Sunday ♥

Jenna, I love all your paintings and especially the watercolors with or without liners. But I think that I like the second one better without the liner – it’s just so flowy and pretty as it is. But both are beautiful and I’m so glad that you had fun painting them! Fearless, indeed!

  12. Kitty says:

I’d like to try this, Jenna. They’re both so pretty but since you asked, I love the unlined ones. They’re just so free!
