Take-out Tuesday, Club Sandwich in a Roll

A club sandwich is my idea of perfection~ lots of different flavors, layers of meats, freshly cooked bacon, a little cheese, crisp lettuce, ripe tomatoes, on a tasty toasted bread

This is a little bit of an inside out club sandwich, the meat and cheese is on the inside and the lettuce and tomato on the outside
Carefully unroll the breadstick dough into a rectangle. You don’t have to pinch the pieces together because you are going to cut along those lines in a minute
Spread with mayo and mustard
Pile on a layer of ham, turkey and cheese
Lay bacon across
Carefully roll up as tightly as possible
Don’t worry, this is very forgiving
Slice roll in half first, then slice those pieces in half again, until you have 8 slices…which somehow I only ended up with 7
^^’
Like I said, it’s very forgiving…
The end slice is especially “purdy”
Bake at 375 until golden and delicious
Serve the rolls with lettuce and tomato on the side
These sandwich slices are just as delicious leftover and reheated

Club Sandwich in a Roll
Ingredients
- 1 can breadstick dough 8 pieces
- 4 oz thinly sliced ham
- 4 oz. thinly sliced turkey
- 4 oz. sliced cheese [I used Gouda]
- 5-6 slices crispy bacon
- 2-3 T mayonnaise
- 2 T mustard [I used honey mustard]
- lettuce
- fresh tomato slices
Instructions
- Unroll dough into a rectangle on a cutting board. Spread with mayonnaise and mustard.
- Lay meats and cheese on in even layers. Top crosswise with bacon slices.
- Carefully roll dough up into a log as tightly as possible.
- Cut roll in half along center perforation. Cut each half in half again, along perforation lines, and again until you have 8 slices. Note: if you try to cut the roll beginning at one end the roll will smush and come apart. Refrigerating before cutting will make it easier also.
- Lay sandwich slices on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake at 375 for 15-20 minutes, until bread is cooked and golden. Makes 8 slices
- Serve with lettuce and tomato slices if desired
Notes
You could also cut the slices in 1/4s and serve them as appetizer bites, skewered with a small piece of lettuce and a cherry tomato, similiar to the BLT skewers in the recent BLT BBQ Bloody Marys
This will be a hit no matter how you serve it!
I have made lots of variations of this recipe, but not the club sandwich version… it is a new favorite around our house, and it’s going to be great for picnics and football season! You can assemble it ahead of time and bake later or bake and reheat, perfect for Take-out Tuesday!

Jenna, We love small bites, especially for a game day or holiday and your pinwheel club makes such a fun, easy & delicious bite!
I’d have to say that purdy end is the cook’s treat! Love that you ended up with seven… Things like that happen to me all the time:@)
This is a great crowd pleaser! This will be great for game days!
Thank you! The hardest part of this recipe is not eating all the rolls yourself!!
What a clever sandwich. Yummy too.

I never thought of doing a club sandwich as a roll. Hmmm, maybe an appetizer, too?
Great idea as always, and as a bacon -lovin-family, we always need a new way to eat it!
Another nice recipe. Thanks so much,.
This looks perfect for a party…or any time. Yum!
thanks Babs!
Very delicious. I imagine you could use home made dough too, maybe an italian bread dough. This would make a great appetizer/snack for watching football. Pinning 🙂
Of course, any dough would work! Thanks joybee!
Yum! I’ve never thought to use bread stick dough in this way. What a great idea! I love the tomato and lettuce on the outside, too.
You had me with the BLT skewers Jenna and now your encore is a Club sandwich in a roll? OMG my college men are going to love this!!!!
ha! you can’t go wrong with bacon!!
That looks so yummy! I bet it’s so easy that it’s perfect for lunch any day of the week. Thanks, it’s been pinned!
Thanks Hope!
Very creative my friend. My family would of loved this while they were here over Labor Day. I will have to fix it the next time they fly in.
Do you deliver……my husband is watching a replay of a UT/OU 1996 game so it is game day here. These look yummy!!!
Pinned for later try.
Cathy <:)
ha, thanks Cathy, this is my new favorite for sure!
Great party food since it can be prepared ahead of time and baked when serving.
I want one (or 2 or 3) of these right this minute. That looks so good. So glad you shared this, Jenna. I’ll be trying it. laurie
thanks Laurie, yes the problem is you will want 1 or 3!
That looks so darn good! Ok I’m going to be blond- do you mean you cut it lengthwise first and then cut the slices from the two halves?
Oh, no, sorry, I meant instead of cutting the roll into slices from one end to the other, cut the roll in half in the middle and then cut each of these pieces into 4 slices. The roll will squash if you start on one end, it just makes it easier to start in the middle~ I hope this answers your question Liz, sorry for the confusion!
Oh my goodness, I just saw this at Miz Helen’s Full Plate party! This looks like such a fun idea, Jenna, and perfect party food. I can’t wait to try this recipe soon.
These are pretty, quick and yummy! What a great idea, definitely going to give it a try!
Hugs,
Patti

wow..this is a great recipe for my “ladies group”….love, love this and will be making this soon!…Thanks for the recipe!!!
I made this tonight, Jenna! My one son and a grandson loved it, and so did I. I had to use crescent rolls because my grocery didn’t have the breadsticks. Would you mind if I posted it, giving a link to you for where I got the inspiration?
hi Kitty! I am so glad it was a big hit! Of course you can post it, I would be flattered! It’s funny, I made it for lunch for company over the weekend and used crescent rolls for the same reason and it turned out great too~I’m sure you could use any dough. I really appreciate you taking the time to give me feedback, I just love to hear that my recipes were enjoyed and that they worked out 🙂 Have a great week! Jenna
Thanks, Jenna! Happy Sunday to you!
