Fearless Friday, Decorative Letter

I was back in my studio this week, and very happy to be there… 💃
Yay, space to paint and get messy!!
After finishing a large commissioned painting and getting it shipped off, I celebrated by doing this fun quick project that anyone can do
Get an oversized letter like this wooden M from Hobby Lobby {check Target, Walmart & Michaels too}
Find a paper that speaks to you, like “hey girl, get in touch with your wild and crazy side”
{besides craft store découpage paper, you can use tissue, wrapping paper, party napkins, or a combo, anything goes!}
Place the letter face down on the paper and either trace and cut it out, or use an exacto knife to cut out the shape as you’re tracing
Squirt the areas you want to découpage with a drizzle of adhesive or Mod Podge
Brush the area to spread the Mod Podge or white glue evenly
Apply the paper as carefully as possible
Brush an even layer of Mod Podge over surface to coat and seal
Now the fun part, paint!! 🎨
Use any acrylic craft paint, matte or glossy
Broad stripes with a flat brush, simple flowers made with a stroke and a fat dot, and pin dot polka dots
Checks made with a flat square brush
You can see a tutorial for painting checks here
“Not perfect” polka dots made with a simple dab, and little green leaves made with a short quick stroke
My studio is now Spring & Summer fresh and pretty!
You can see more of my studio at Hiding in Plain Sight here
It is truly my happy place!

So creative! Has a Mary Engelbreit kind of feel with the black in the paper.
Thanks Carole! At first I was going to tear the paper into pieces and decoupage, but then I realized the paper already looked like different patterns pieced together so that saved a lot of work and time!!

Jenna, I think I could that! So cute and fun! I agree with Carole, it does have a Mary Engelbreit feel and I know you admire her creativity! I do, too! Have a wonderful weekend!
This is a fun quick project, I am on a serious decoupage kick right now, I want to do it on everything 🙂 >
Awww I love your decoupaged/painted M, Jenna! I have a letter just hanging around my house waiting to have something done to it. Thanks for the inspiration. Happy weekend to you!
have fun Kitty! >
This is just adorable! It would be fun to have a girl’s night and make these. Thank you for the fun inspiration. 🙂
That would be fun! Great idea Stacey! >
I always look forward to Fearless Fridays Jenna and learn so much from you. I love the combination of collage and paint in your M. What great light you have in your studio! This is what I recently completed, adding gold leaf without adhesive, as you have done in past paintings. It is large, 3 ft X 3 ft oil/cold wax medium on canvas with gold leaf.

I would love to see some of your work Johanne, please post it or send me some photos! >
I posted a picture of my most recent painting in a comment on your post. Did you get it?
Cute idea…anytime I decoupage with ModPodge and paper I get wrinkles and it drives me crazy….any tips for keeping it smooth?
ha, yes, I get wrinkles too, I just refer to them as character 🙂
Gorgeous! I love letters that have been decorated. I have some with my initials (that I didn’t make). Yours is beautiful!
What fun! Makes we want to run out and buy some letters! Would make wonderful gifts too! Thanks, Jenna
Thanks Lynn, it was a fast and easy project! >
Love it. The M reminds me of the Mary Tyler Moore show and she had a big M on the wall. Not as cute as yours, though. Have a great weekend, Jenna.
I can see why this would be your happy place Jenna. You make happiness happen in this space!
Love the paper you used-very cute:@)
That’s so pretty!
Thanks Effie!
Your Fearless Friday posts sure are inspiring! This one is completely doable for me. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Kim! Have fun! >
Of course I love your ‘M’ Jenna 🙂 I had a friend give me one that was handpainted from Anthro’ for my birthday several years ago… yours is cuter!
Happy place indeed! I always look at these letters thinking I should get one then I lose my nerve. My tween granddaughter would love one of these so I’ll have to shake off the nerves and give this a try.
