Fearless Friday, Red Wine

Here we are, half way through World Watercolor Month!

I am ashamed to tell you that I have missed 4

out of the first 15 days 😵

BUT that’s what’s great about this challenge,

join in when you can, no pressure!

Beach “time”

I did take some time one day to find inspiration photos

to use for the remaining July prompts

To me, the hardest part of the challenge

is deciding what to paint

so having already made those decisions

really saves time

“Strong”

Today we’re going to pour a glass of wine

Below is my inspiration photo

I was drawn to the dramatic contrasts and the

“strong” bold colors

I started with a pencil sketch

Then I began by making borders around the areas

I wanted to leave white highlights

{You can also use liquid masking fluid to preserve these areas}

Next I painted the bottle in various shades of green,

and the wine in shades of red

I was having so much fun,

I got distracted and forgot to take more photos…

I added gold shadows to the wine glass and added a stem

Then I realized that it looks like the wine

was pouring outside of the glass

because I painted over the rim

I added 2 short lines with ochre gouache paint

over the red to capture the rim again

and show the wine pouring into the glass

“Red Wine” 6″ x 9″ watercolor on mixed media paper

Right now I’m using Mofuny Mixed Media spiral bound books

from Amazon here

They have a hard cover and the size is great for single works

or putting several works on a page

They can be used with wet or dry media

and are currently bargain priced, in my opinion,

2 9″ x 12″ 60 page books for $18.99

Happy Creating,

Jenna, I know having a challenge and a deadline really to spur me on stir my creativity. Love how you were able to replace the rim after the fact! Happy Friday, cheers! 🍷

  2. My favorite is the child at the beach!

  3. I often need a challenge and a deadline, Jenna. I enjoy seeing your creativity on Fearless Friday. Amazing how adding the rim back really made a difference. Happy Friday to you!

  4. The strong bold coloured one looks great, but the little boy playing at the beach is my favourite, Jenna.

What a contrast with and without the rim. Amazingly beautiful as always. Happy Friday!

  6. WOW! Absolutely beautiful Jenna. GIRL….you amaze me with your talent. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  7. Your paintings are so very agreeable with me! The Beach ‘time’ painting is very, very precious!

  8. Jessica says:

My goodness, you are SO talented!! Thank you for including the pencil sketch. If I can figure out how to draw something, I can usually paint it (or add a bunch of jewelry-ha.) Beautiful work!! Love the beach one, too!

I’ll be remembering your lovely watercolor as I enjoy a glass of red wine with my steak tonight. Have a great weekend!

  10. This is beautiful, Jenna. The gold shadows on the wine glass are especially perfect. I love the leaving white for reflections too — I sometimes forget to do this and have to haul out my bleedproof white, which is OK — but not as good as leaving it. And your beachy child — darling!

  11. Nancy says:

Nice fix! And that fix was needed.
    Love your Fearless Fridays!

  12. I really do always love your watercolors and of course red wine is my favorite! I enjoy hearing about how you painted it too. I wish I could paint, but the talent is just not there.

  13. You had me at “wine.”🍷

  14. Kim says:

Beautiful Jenna and great fix too! I didn’t notice it right away until you said something and then I saw it. Love your creativity and glad that you are having fun doing it!
