Fearless Friday, Silver Coffee Pot
The prompt for July 16
during World Watercolor Month
was “silver”
After surfing through images on Pinterest for silver,
I chose this elegant coffee pot to paint
I love all the contrasts and the drama of the darks and lights
First step was a pencil sketch
If you’re not comfortable drawing something free hand
you can always trace it and transfer the tracing
to a piece of watercolor or mixed media paper
Since there are so many light bright areas on this silver pot
I started with the dark areas
I used mostly varying wahes of sepia
and worked my way from the handle
to the shadows on the top and along the sides
Down the spout and around the bottom
I used paler washes for the center shadows
Then I used Payne’s Gray for the final washes on the spout
and around the bowl of the pot

This isn’t something I would normally choose to paint,
but I really enjoyed it
and want to do more silver pieces in the future

Thank you Pam! Did you have storms yesterday? We lost power for over 6 hours, and the internet is out all over my area, quite a storm!
No, not at our house. We were thrilled for 3/4 inch of rain. Ugh, power outage in the heat is not fun. Was there a lot of damage, trees down? You must have had straight line winds, they can do a lot of damage.
Luckily, we installed a whole house generator in January which comes on in less than a minute when the power goes out, so I was very happy! I didn’t see any trees down when I went out today, but limbs and leaves and stuff all over the yards in my neighborhood. Just got internet back an hour ago. Scary storm!

haha, you know me so well! Actually I had a lot of fun with this one, and do want to do more silver pots indicating reflections of colorful things around them 🙂
This is amazing. I would have thought you would have to buy silver paint to achieve this effect, but it would probably look “cheesy.” This shows why you are the artist and I am a lover of art.

Beautiful Jenna – I would have thought it impossible to paint a silver mirrored finish until I saw this. Wow. What a great job and it looks so real! Sorry to hear about the nasty storm there and hope there wasn’t too much damage. Take care down there.
Thank you Kim, painting the silver pot was actually a lot of fun and something new and different for me 🙂 We didn’t have any damage from the storm, just a lot of yard clean up to do.
