Fearless Friday, Copycat Poppies

A great way to learn painting is by copying others
The watercolor on the left is from Fluidcolors. I love the way the artist faded the receeding poppies into the shadowy background, and I copied the artist’s style and composition {right}
Copying is a great way to experiment and try out new techniques, just make sure you always credit the original artist
I decided to try some more poppies, this time on glass
I fell in love with this pattern from the Pioneer Woman collection at Walmart, and bought 2 plates
Bright impressionist poppies and polka dots, I couldn’t wait to paint glasses to go with them
Experiment on paper first, to practice your strokes, shapes, and color mix
Paint petals and leaves with simple quick strokes
Once this has dried add the center dots and background polka dots
A future tablescape coming soon…
Be Fearless!
note: be sure to use a curable paint for glass so your masterpiece will be permanent
These stemless glasses are great for wine or any beverage. They are reasonably priced and are readily available everywhere

Love your poppies on your glasses Jenna and your copycat poppies on paper are beautiful! I’ve admired the PW collection at Walmart too. I know you’ve mentioned before but what curable paint for glass do you use?
I’ve been using Liquitex Glossies for years but they’ve discontinued them 😱 I stocked up as soon as I found out, so haven’t tried anything else yet. There are several brands that look good, Deco Art gloss enamels, Martha Stewart has a line too. They are available at Hobby Lobby and Amazon. Please let me know if you try some and like them!
Jenna, I wish I could paint, you make it look easy! Love the glasses to accompany the PW plates. I need to make a trip to Walmart to check on that cute pattern. Happy Weekend!
Beautiful! Love poppies and they are so short lived. This helps continue their beauty forever. ☺️💜
The painted poppies on glass are beautiful! Perfect addition to the pretty Pioneer Woman plates! (They’re a fav of mine, too!) 🙂 ~Rhonda
When we were in England I fell in love with poppies. I would cover my backyard with them, but I think deer love them as much as I do! Haha. Yours are beautiful and a great way to enjoy them indoors!
This project reminds me of the Poppy project in Fairhope this past year! Such beautiful and simple little flowers. You did a great job.
I haven’t seen these Pioneer Woman plates yet. I love them! Your poppy glasses should be on the store shelf right beside those plates. They’d sell like hotcakes! I look forward to seeing your tablescape. 🙂
Jenna, you did a fabulous job on the glasses! You are so talented! The compiment the PW plates perfectly!
You did an amazing job!
thank you Debbie! >

Looks like I wasn’t the only one with poppies on my mind this week! Thanks so much for joining us each week at Celebrate Your Story and sharing your links.
Jenna, I love this! I love poppies, too, and have orange ones in my garden. This makes me happy, and I hope I see the tablescape in your alfresco choice – regardless, can’t wait!

Thanks Rita! I’m really looking forward to the alfresco hop too! >
You did a fantastic job in your copycat painting! I love to paint, especially with watercolor or acrylics. Your glasses look like they’re part of the set of dishes. I think I need to take a trip to Walmart and look at those beautiful dishes.
thank you! happy painting and shopping 🙂 >
