Fearless Friday, Copycat Poppies
A great way to learn painting is by copying others
The watercolor on the left is from Fluidcolors. I love the way the artist faded the receeding poppies into the shadowy background, and I copied the artist’s style and composition {right}
Copying is a great way to experiment and try out new techniques, just make sure you always credit the original artist
I decided to try some more poppies, this time on glass
I fell in love with this pattern from the Pioneer Woman collection at Walmart, and bought 2 plates
Bright impressionist poppies and polka dots, I couldn’t wait to paint glasses to go with them
Experiment on paper first, to practice your strokes, shapes, and color mix
Paint petals and leaves with simple quick strokes
Once this has dried add the center dots and background polka dots

note: be sure to use a curable paint for glass so your masterpiece will be permanent

Love your poppies on your glasses Jenna and your copycat poppies on paper are beautiful! I’ve admired the PW collection at Walmart too. I know you’ve mentioned before but what curable paint for glass do you use?
I’ve been using Liquitex Glossies for years but they’ve discontinued them 😱 I stocked up as soon as I found out, so haven’t tried anything else yet. There are several brands that look good, Deco Art gloss enamels, Martha Stewart has a line too. They are available at Hobby Lobby and Amazon. Please let me know if you try some and like them!

When we were in England I fell in love with poppies. I would cover my backyard with them, but I think deer love them as much as I do! Haha. Yours are beautiful and a great way to enjoy them indoors!

You did a fantastic job in your copycat painting! I love to paint, especially with watercolor or acrylics. Your glasses look like they’re part of the set of dishes. I think I need to take a trip to Walmart and look at those beautiful dishes.
