Holidays, May Celebrations

My calendar says April 23…
Is that right???
How can it be April 23!!!
May is always a busy month, with the end of school, the approach of summer, parties, dance recitals and graduations…
I am planning now so I can be ready for all the festivities, and have been looking over these holidays in the archives
May 1, May Day
Celebrate with this EZ Daisy Dip
May 5, Cinco de Mayo
Be sure to serve something with a little South of the Border style 🌮 🌵
Sombrero Cookies are festive and easy to make
Or just get some salsa and throw your chips in a sombrero 💃
This is the first Cinco de Mayo tablescape I did for the Painted Apron, and it’s still one of my favorites
The “gauchos” from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, can still be found strolling around my patio
or near my Jardin Mexicano
May 6, Derby Day
Do you watch the Run for the Roses
Or are you lucky enough to go to the Kentucky Derby?
We love to watch the excitement on TV, you can see the names of the horses running this year here
I like to pick the winner by the name that catches my eye, this year my choice is Always Dreaming, I was tempted by Hollywood Handsome, but he’s rated last…
Put on a big floppy hat and serve up some Southern style treats
Maple Bourbon Bacon Jam Crostini with Pimiento Cheese & Praline Pecans
Pecan Pie Danish are great for brunch or dessert
And dinner doesn’t get any more festive Southern than
Peachy Bourbon BBQ Chicken with Baked Cheese Grits
May 11, Big E’s birthday
It seems like only yesterday he was turning 2, his brother was turning 6, and we celebrated with gluten free Chocolate Cake with Strawberries
This year they will be 5 and 9! One plays soccer and one plays baseball, so I’m thinking cupcakes with “grass” icing, half with soccer balls and half with base balls…
or maybe all Fisherboy Cupcakes
Their birthdays are only 4 days apart so we usually just have 1 celebration
It’s often last minute, and nothing fancy, but even a few balloons and a party hat can make things instantly a party
May 14, Mother’s Day and Super Boy’s birthday
This was the first Mother’s Day tablescape I did for the Painted Apron, and it too, is one of my favorites
Another favorite Mother’s Day table featured a photograph runner
May 15, CC dance Recital
Last year she was great in the yard but totally froze on stage 😂
It was adorable! I gave her this tote for her birthday last month for her dancing shoes and to remind her to dance!
May 26, Snapper Season opens in Alabama
My guys are all about fishing!
May 29, Memorial Day
Still plenty of time to paint Flag Bottles
and Flag Glasses
So many special occasions!
With the extra celebrating of 2 birthdays and a dance recital, not to mention some back and forthing, I started rounding up ideas over the past few days…
I would be lost without Pinterest, it is such a fantastic way to collect and organize ideas quickly and have them all at your finger tips
All ideas, recipes and favorite things from the archives for these events are being stashed on my May Celebrations Pinterest board here
May is just around the corner so get ready and
