Fearless Friday, Easter Garden

When the MacKenzie-Childs Spring catalog arrived
I fell in love with the cover and just had to paint it!
I painted the background flowers and foreground moss with watercolor
and used ink and markers for the bunny and eggs

I started with a pencil sketch of the bunny
{please forgive the bluish paper, I was outside and the lighting was tricky}

Then I began to place the blooms, starting with a very pale peach

Then I added yellow and pink roses, making the flowers with circular strokes

Then came leaves in varying shades of green

I purposely wanted the background flowers to be abstract and loose

I added more petals to the blooms with deeper tones
With the flowers finished I inked the bunny

I did the outline first and then added the checks

I colored the bunny and eggs with markers,
I wanted him to stand out against the busy and colorful surroundings

The final step was adding moss in the foreground
using the wet into wet technique,
laying a wash of clear water over the area and then dropping in sap green

I love your watercolor and artistic version of MKC catalog cover Jenna! So colorful and whimsical ♥
Thank you Mary, painting MKC things keeps me from buying 🙂
So colorfully characteristic of your style, Jenna! A wonderful interpretation!
Thank you Rita, it was a lot of fun combining 2 different styles 🙂
You’ve done it again Jenna! If anything was going to put me in the Easter mood it’s looking at this beautiful artwork!
Thanks so much Dorothy!
You make painting seem so effortless!
Thank you!
Jenna, your interpretation is beautiful!
I hope your home in the city was spared by the tornadoes. The five that lost their lives in Calhoun County were about fifteen miles from our home in Etowah County The pictures are horrifying!
Thank you Pam, I don’t think we had any issues in my neighborhood, I’m sure there are limbs down, we’ll find out when we go home this week…
This is so cheery and fun, Jenna! Love the checked bunny — the black and white is perfect with the colorful blooms. I’ve been painting Easter cards and this would be a perfect one. Very cheery!
Thank you Jeanie, had painted Easter cards are such a special idea, I hope you share them on your blog!
Both MKC catalog cover and your painting are just lovely and so springy. I love esp. the bunny…so cute!
Thank you Angie 🐇
So amazing, you have so much talent Jenna!
thank you Martha 🙂
He’s wonderful! I love the way he does stand out, and the grass is perfect–it looks magical. Won’t be long now till the bunny ARRIVES!. I found a small door decoration complete with bunny’s cotton tail as if he is running away and it says: “Follow the Bunny–he has chocolate!” So here’s the official BOLO on the bunny, he’s out there, and he’s “carrying”–chocolate eggs, that is. ; ) Georgia Gal
Haha, how cute!!! Thanks for the smiles!!
What a beautiful interpretation of MKC catalog.
Hope all is well with you and the horrible weather!
Thank you Nancy, drawing and painting MacKenzie-Childs things keeps me from buying them 🙂 Yes, I’m safe at the beach house, but one of my friends in Bham had a lot of damage, she said it was terrifying…
Prayers for your friend…🙏🏻
thank you 😘
Wow, I wish I had talent like this. This is beautiful and I am just so in love with the bunny! 🙂
Thank you Angie !
I fell in love with this adorable cover as well Jenna. You certainly did capture the lovely colors and feel with your interpretation. Such a lovely project capturing the essence of spring……..
Thank you Emily, I always pour over the catalogs, they are always full of so many cute vignettes!
I love your painting, you always make it look so easy but you have to have the talent and you certainly do.
Thanks so much Karen 🙂
