Party Panache, Kentucky Derby Ideas
Do you watch the Kentucky Derby, usually on the first Saturday in May?
Last year it was moved from May to Labor Day
and we had a lot of Derby Day fun at our Delayed Derby Party
This year it’s May 1, a mere 2 weeks away
I’m not sure if we are going to have a gathering
due to the boys’ hectic baseball and soccer schedule…
but, here are potential food ideas~
Whether you’re having a gathering or it’s just one or two,
Make it fun!
Wear a fancy hat and much on Southern favorites
Pimiento cheese, pecans, ham, chicken, biscuits…
and instead of a sit down meal
I like to serve appetizers so everyone can mix, mingle and graze
Ham & Cheese Biscuit Volcanoes
Maple Bourbon Bacon Jam & Pimiento Cheese Crostini with Praline Pecans
Loaded Bourbon Bleu Cheese Stuffed Potato Skins

Thanks Bernadette! I usually try to make party food mostly a day ahead, just so I don’t have so much to do day of, plus my son cooks too which really helps~
Jenna, I laughed about the hissy fit dip. We Southern ladies occasionally have one of those hissy fits. All of the food looks amazing. Soup and Sandwich intrigued me, wonder how they think up these names for horses. Happy Sunday!

Love all these recipes! As to horses, i would have to pick Hot Rod Charlie–describes my husband. When he was younger, before we met, he actually raced in some small official races. The man loved speed. When he started work in an engine shop he dropped the fastest motor alive into his older red Chevy truck. He became famous (infamous?) as an old geezer who could really move. Never underestimate older folks, they can surprise you! So, I’m betting on H. R. Charlie!!! Watching the horses run and enjoying a bit of your Sweet Home Alabama Butter Pecan Coffeecake sounds perfect. Georgia Gal
Ha, I liked Hot Rod Charlie too, my husband wasn’t a speed demon, but he always had a very cool sports car convertible to zip around in. I am going to make the Pecan cake for sure, it’s one of my favorites, thanks Georgia Gal!

The derby doesn’t move me either way but every single one of these would move me to the buffet table. Of course, I might never leave it once there!

I have never once watched the Kentucky derby. Consequently, I know nothing about horse races. Years ago my husband took me to some well-known race track when we were visiting his family in New Jersey. Just for fun I bet on a couple of horses. We sat down, the first race started, and I couldn’t believe how quickly it was over. That’s it? I asked him. I thought they would just keep running, you know, encircling the track a couple of times. LOL! That was quite an education for me. But I don’t need a derby to make any of the above recipes. Those volcanoes look wonderful. In fact, everything looks delicious
