Recipe Box, Mardi Gras King Cake

Fat Tuesday is the traditional name for the day before Ash Wednesday,

the first day of Lent in Christian churches

It falls on February 13th this year

Fat Tuesday is more commonly known as Mardi Gras,

which is simply Fat Tuesday in French

It is a day of feasting and partying

King Cake is part of the Mardi Gras tradition

You can read more about it’s origin here

You might want to make this simple version and join the celebration!

All you need is cream cheese, canned cinnamon rolls,

eggs, milk, vanilla, colored sprinkles, and sugar

Cut the unbaked rolls into 1/4s

and put them into a 9″ x 9″ sprayed baking dish

Beat the cream cheese* with sugar until it is well blended

*I like to use the whipped cream cheese, it blends so easily

Next add the milk, eggs and vanilla

Mix to incorporate

Pour the batter over the cut rolls in the baking dish

Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes

Let cool for 5-10 minutes

and then ice it with the icing that came with the rolls

Time for sprinkles!

This recipe is adapted from Plain Chicken

What a great recipe Jenna – who does not love cinnamon buns with cream cheese and sprinkles! I actually didn’t know that you could buy them in a roll like that so will have to check that out. That would be so handy for Christmas morning brunch. You almost never hear anything about Mardi Gras in Canada and I didn’t connect the French Mardi Gras with Fat Tuesday, but of course, now that you have said it. I hope you have a wonderful Mardi Gras celebration!

    • Thanks Kim, does your grocery store carry Pillsbury canned biscuits, crescent rolls etc.? They are in every store in the US, I couldn’t live with out them, so handy! Happy Fat Tuesday!
