Fearless Friday, Abstract Acrylic Flowers

Flowers are my favorite thing to paint

When I paint them in acrylic,

I like to paint them in an abstract fashion

I like to paint them large and loose,

often with circular strokes in several shades of color

Red Roses

You can see how simple flowers can be on this Painted Pitcher

Whimsy is one of my favorite paintings,

It’s a vase of flowers and leaves

I have it on several items in my Society 6 Shop

The roses in Whimsy are abstract versions

of the blooms scattered on the table

Abstract Garden, below, was painted very quickly,

fast loose strokes suggesting the flower forms

and instead of stems, I indicated them with drips of paint

I used Golden Fluid Acrylics for this

They come in squeeze bottles so you can squeeze the bottle

and let the paint drip down the canvas

The large Bloom below was commissioned by a good friend

It is definitely very abstract!

I liked the way it turned out so much

that I painted a similar canvas for myself

Summer Burst with impasto

Impasto is a painting technique using very thick amounts of paint

resulting in a 3 D texture

Again, I used drips for added interest and texture

All this is to demonstrate that as an artist

you don’t have to paint or draw realistically,

you can interpret the image and simplify it as much as you want,

concentrating on shapes and colors

Flower Therapy

Fantasy Garden is a just a happy mix of colors

and very simple shapes

I used paint pens to add lines and dots to Funky Flowers

I hope I’ve given you some ideas and inspiration

to paint some abstract style flowers, it’s so much fun!

Oh Jenna, these are all beautiful. I would be really hard pressed to choose a favorite but Bloom and Flower Therapy would be contenders if I was forced to choose. I love the drip technique and I love your abstract style. Please always keep painting and sharing your wonderful talent!

I feel like Alice through the looking glass. I was browsing and ended up at the Painted Apron. I jumped from one thing to another, facinated with painting, with cooking, with traveling and on and on. I registered for your blog and can’t wait to see whats next. You are one talented lady.
