Abstract Painting
When stress comes knocking at my door,
I love to head to my studio and paint something abstract
Abstract strokes are loose and free~

CC painted this with watercolor when she was 3…
She was Fearless!
Acrylic is my favorite medium, it allows me to paint quickly,
keeping things fast and loose
Plus, with acrylic, anything you don’t like can be painted over
“Peacock Dreams” , was commissioned with instructions
to paint the canvas mostly with whites and grays,
with touches of green, blue, and gold
I used gold leaf instead of gold paint
“Bloom” was commissioned by a friend
and is pictured in her living room before she had a chance to hang it
This was a lot of fun to paint
and I purposely loaded my brush with excess paint
so it would drip down
I liked her painting so much that I painted a similar one for my house
casually indicates the water and a shoreline
with colorful buildings reflecting into the water
is just horizontal brush strokes, dots and dabs
Abstract painting is like creating a mood…
It focuses on using visual elements like shapes, colors, forms,
and gestural marks to achieve its effect
It can express ideas, emotions, or concepts
through non-representational means~
The flowers in “Abstract Garden” , above, has drips instead of stems,
creating a somewhat whimsical mood
creates leaves and blooms with layers of colored strokes
This Painted Pitcher has abstract flowers around it’s middle
But remember that to be successful,
composition, color, focal point, and light are just as important
in abstract painting as they are in more traditional painting
Get out your paint brush and have some fun!

I like how your imagination took a journey – the colors just seem to dance together!
I like abstracts that have a degree of real connection to them (apart fro color and shape) — like your blooms and seascape. It’s the glorious use of color and mood that makes your painting so joyful.

I think of abstract art as something “anyone” can do (except me 😉), but your abstract paintings are anything but paint slapped on a canvas. I like all of them in this post, but “Breaking Waves” is magnificent. I feel like I am by the ocean!
Jenna, I think CC must have inherited her Grandma’s talent and her fearlessness! These are all so beautiful and truly do bring joy to your viewers. I love them all but Bloom and Breaking Waves really sing to me. Bloom looks gorgeous in your friend’s living room. You are so talented and I hope your recovery is going well. Take care!
Thank you so much Kim, I’ve had a lot of fun doing abstracts. Breaking Waves was a present for my daughter, her house is decorated in mostly grays and white.
